Under the direction of the supervisor and manager performs basic technical /clinical duties with supervision. Also interfaces with research and ancillary components of the IVF Program.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision performs collection and preparation of oocytes for insemination to include oocyte microscopic identification, cleaning, distribution in dishes and insemination. Analysis and preparation of sperm specimen for insemination or for ICSI (Intracytoplasmic sperm injection). This includes analysis and processing of fresh and cryopreserved semen specimens as well as the processing of fresh and cryopreserved specimens surgically obtained by epidydimal aspiration or testis biopsy. Assessment of fertilization and zygote quality following insemination. Daily assessment/grading and handling of embryos through Day 6 of in vitro culture.

  • Cryopreservation and thawing of embryos at varying stages of development (includes subsequent culture and assessment of thawed embryos. Performs ancillary procedures required to control for and improve the quality of services provided.

  • Performing data collection for daily QC and QA. Reporting the measurements which are not within the expected ranges.

  • Under the direction of the supervisor, assists in data collection from patient charts, statistical analysis, data organization and presentation at institutional, local, national or international meetings.

  • Assists with participation in the lab's efforts to implement and monitor its clinical and research procedures thereby controlling, maintaining and improving the laboratory' s efforts to implement and monitor its clinical and research services.

  • Understand techniques and administrative requirements of the laboratory and general compliance as it relates to patient confidentiality and informed consent, safety and regulatory requirements.

  • Assists with performing various data elements. Documents all aspects of laboratory procedures in the appropriate written and computerized transcription formats.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of cryostorage record keeping and reporting.

  • Monitors equipment reagents, media, and work environment by following quality control guidelines.

  • Disposes of sharps and needles in designated hazard containers

  • Performs all tests utilizing universal precautions for bloodborne pathogens and in accordance with procedures.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Bachelor's Degree in a biological science.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of three years experience in a clinical laboratory setting performing basic embryology techniques prior to invitro fertilization.

SPECIAL SKILLS: Excellent written and communication skills with ability to interact with patients, staff and physicians.
