Job Description
MTS Systems is seeking a self-directed individual to implement motor controls in customized embedded code for highly efficient, real-time, on-board systems. As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will work as a key team member alongside other subject matter experts on projects from concept through design to implementation.
Qualifications
B.S. in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical or equivalent from an ABET accredited institution (advanced degree preferred)
Minimum 5 years engineering experience
Use of Matlab/Simulink, especially for integrated controls design and auto-compilation to hardware
Experience working with modern control chipsets e.g., (Texas Instruments, Xilinx)
Demonstrated ability to support customers, and set/meet expectations at all technical and/or programmatic levels
Implementation of advanced motor control technologies, including field weakening, harmonic modulation, over- and/or window-based sampling, direct-torque, sensorless algorithm, etc.)
Experience with fast-paced projects (e.g,. Motorsport) to make and communicate good engineering decisions under pressured deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
Develops software requirements, design, implementation, verification, and validation for embedded control of custom electric motors and variable frequency drives
Simulates physical plant, control, and feedback signal to support system design optimization and predict control performance
Performs unit software testing and bread-board bench testing to minimize debugging time needed on full system
Develops test plans and unit test set-ups to validate and verify software and system performance
Integrates software, variable frequency drive, and custom motor prototypes in full-system factory test lab, remotely, and on-site customer locations
Plans, implements, and reports status of software features to internal and external customers
Other accountabilities/duties as assigned by the manager
