The University of Illinois Counseling Center is hiring multiple embedded counselors. These positions will be located in academic and student affairs units such as the Liberal Arts and Sciences, College of Media, and University Housing. Successful candidates will have solid experience and expertise in serving college student populations

The Center is an accredited training site through the American Psychological Association with over 50 full-time staff, which includes clinicians, doctoral interns, social work interns, academic professional staff, and administrative staff. The staff is also made up of graduate assistants, undergraduate paraprofessionals, and practicum counselors.

Job Summary

Counseling Center staff who provide services as well as identify and advocate for the many ways the Counseling Center can help students in that specific department. The primary functions are to provide clinical counseling to students, provide consultation to students and faculty/staff, and provide outreach prevention programming within the embedded unit.

Works comfortably both individually and as part of an interdisciplinary team in providing effective outreach and prevention programs. Our Center's mission places a high value on serving a diverse population of students in a culturally competent manner as we provide a variety of services to assist students with psychological, educational, social, and developmental concerns.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide time-limited counseling services for students enrolled in the embedded unit.

  • Providing outreach, prevention, and consultation services for the embedded unit and community.

  • Provide consultation services to students, faculty and staff.

  • Network and liaise with administration, faculty and staff within the college and advocate for students and their needs as appropriate.

  • Create and implement targeted prevention programming for students.

  • Providing group counseling services through a general therapy group or a group that addresses a specific clinical issue or the needs of a particular population of students.

  • Manage clinical crises for students enrolled in the college.

  • Participating in psychological emergency and trauma response.

  • Participating in various Student Affairs activities and committees.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education • For clinicians having a terminal master's level degree the following is required: master's degree in social work, counseling or psychology. • For clinicians having a terminal doctoral degree the following is required: doctorate in clinical psychology, clinical/community psychology, counseling psychology, or related field. • Degree completed by start date is required. Licensure • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Illinois or license state-transfer eligible background is required for master's degree. • Licensed in Illinois or license state-transfer as psychologist is required for doctoral degree. • Licensed for at least 2 years at time of application is required. • No other licensure will be considered. Experience • Demonstrated experience functioning at a high level as a generalist.

Preferred Qualifications

Interest and experience in one or more of the following desired clinical and outreach areas: Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), triage/crisis intervention, or gender non-conforming/non-binary student groups.

Licensed and seasoned clinicians, individuals with diverse backgrounds, and those with experience and ideas that embrace, and value diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

Experience in a college counseling center.

Fluency in a second language, especially Mandarin or Spanish.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 8/16/2024. Starting salary range is $70,000-$80,000 and will be commensurate based on education and experience.
