The Email Content Developer is responsible for the hands-on coding, building and testing of customer-facing email marketing communications within the Salesforce Marketing Cloud platform. This position is expected to utilize both HTML expertise and email marketing best practices where applicable within the daily responsibilities.


  • Under the direction of the Senior Email Developer, serve as the point-of-contact for our Gap Inc. brand partners on email campaign build-outs

  • Work closely with Salesforce Campaign Managers to ensure on-time deliverables, including the communication of status, complications, developments and next steps

  • Deliver production for all assigned email marketing campaigns, which includes slicing PSD files, converting to HTML, QA'ing against customer profiles, and addressing change rounds and revisions

  • Work closely in the SFMC platform to utilize all available tools, resources and information to ensure accuracy across all email builds, including cross platform, browser, device compatibility

  • Receive assets from in-house brand Creative teams, but work independently on production aspects

  • Utilize knowledge and research of current email best practices to make suggestions in regard to design, layout, messaging and deliverability

  • Setup A/B testing content for emails

  • Fluent in HTML/XHTML versions through 4.0 (including forms, frames, complex tables, meta tags)

  • Ability to program and troubleshoot JavaScript code and client-side image maps

  • Proficient in Web production tools

  • Proficient with cross-platform and browser compatibility issues

  • Proficient with Flash animation and knowledge of ActionScript.

  • Technically proficient in Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop

  • Proficient with cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to include CSS positioning and table-less layouts

  • Familiar with SEO compliancy

  • Experience with various Version Control Software (CVS, Subversion, VSS)

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to turn around projects quickly and efficiently

  • Ability to excel in a team environment

  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects under tight deadlines

  • 2 years of college or equivalent experience

  • 2 years (minimum) web site production and programming experience

  • E-commerce site development preferred

  • User Interface design background preferred

You will be the subject matter expert and solution owner for our SFMC platform and all work-streams that use it including, but not limited to, our customer specific email process and our book of business campaigns. They will be responsible for understanding the business and customer needs, identifying opportunities for automation and innovation, and designing and implementing solutions that allow for scale and efficiency. Key Responsibilities * Be the email operations lead for Castlight and all businesses supported by Castlight. Be the primary owner of the email platform for all team members and vendor resources (onsite and offsite). * Negotiate all necessary contracts as it relates to email operations and best practices including email platform, Litmus, and agency services. * Manage the agency relationship for Castlight and operations for all additional channel implementations (Social, SMS, Ads, etc). * Provide technical solutions in cross-functional team meetings for defining new requirements or resolving business issues as needed. * Maintain product technical knowledge and lead architecture design discussions. * Review and optimize the current email process for both our B2B and B2C businesses and recommend further enhancements for scale. * Lead the development and integration of added global functionality (languages) in our email platform * Manage a team of 4 – 5 people who oversee all campaigns and internal customized sends * Partner and collaborate cross-functionally with business partners including product, engineering, analytics, data management, and customer relationship managers Skills and Competencies * 5+ years of experience in managing email platforms (Salesforce Marketing Cloud preferred) * 2+ years of managing and mentoring a team (3 -4 ppl) * Salesforce Marketing Cloud Administration certification a plus * Proficient in SQL, HTML, CSS, Ampscript / Javascript, API integrations desired but not required * Experience with JIRA, Confluence, Office 365, Agile desired but not required * Expert data Integration skills and the ability to QA for desired targeting of all channel marketing efforts * Experience working in a Product-focused organization desired * Proficient in email best practices, including segmentation, deliverability, and current regulations (CAN-SPAM, GDPR, CASL, etc) * Ability to anticipate business needs, drive clarity in ambiguous situations and strong problem-solving skills * Excellent vendor and stakeholder management & negotiation skills * Ability to forecast and manage resources for operations * Ability to gauge the feasibility, impact and risks of proposed enhancements & innovations * Experience managing and implementing email platforms – understanding of email filters and white-listing practices for deliverability About Castlight Health Castlight is on a mission to make it as easy as humanly possible to navigate healthcare and live happier, healthier, more productive lives.
