Overview

Performs a variety of functions such as installation, maintenance, and repair on all electrical systems of any baggage handling, passenger boarding bridges, facilities and related equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs maintenance and repair of baggage handling systems, passenger boarding bridges and related equipment.

  • Executes complex maintenance assignments involving but not limited to automotive, electrical, systems and other related trade skill sets.

  • Conducts daily and periodic shift inspections, cleaning, and diagnostics of electrical system components based on an established scheduled preventive maintenance program.

  • Troubleshoots and repair all control system and electrical failures by applying comprehensive technical knowledge to solve problems by interpreting manufacturer manuals or similar documents.

  • Run conduit, change motors, repair circuits, rewire, repair wiring, etc. as needed.

  • Perform preventive maintenance on electrical components based on an established scheduled preventive maintenance program to include, but not limited to, motors, clutches, brakes, bearings, drive belts, drive shafts, pulleys, gearboxes (speed reducers), and conveyor belting.

  • Complete Pm Checklist in accordance with established procedures, document accordingly in applicable computer program.

  • Remove and replace plug-in type boards and components. Align, replace, and clear photocells.

  • Makes repairs of connectors, wiring and fuses on-site, and cleans and performs diagnostic routines of electrical and control system components.

  • Maintain work orders in applicable computer program.

  • Works in tight and/or high spaces utilizing appropriate PPE and fall protection equipment.

  • Follows and complies with all company and federally established policies and procedures

  • Utilizes a computer to perform a variety of communications, training and administrative processes.

  • Completes forms connected with work assignments according to established procedures.

  • Completes all safety training as assigned by the Company.

  • Compliance with all ELS safety programs, policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional duties/assignments that may be required by management from time to time.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)

  • Must be a licensed electrician per state and/or customer requirements

  • Must have own set of hand tools common to the trade.

  • Ability to work a non-traditional schedule including weekends and holidays.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of airport operations and maintenance.

  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures related to equipment repair.

  • Knowledge of general workplace safety requirements and procedures.

  • 4+ years of mechanical work experience or equivalent technical schooling.

  • 4+ years of electrical work experience or equivalent technical schooling.

  • Knowledge of conveyor systems and/or passenger boarding bridges.

  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and be insurable under the Company's insurance policy

  • Must be able to comply with the ELS Drug and Alcohol policy.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Will work in a mechanics shop, in conditions that may contain dust, dirt, moving machinery, temperature changes, heights and continual noise that is below OSHA's action level. Must have the ability to work outside for extended periods, in extreme weather conditions. PPE is required.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Responsible for inspection, testing and maintenance of electrical, electronic and HVAC systems on rolling stock equipment and components in accordance with FRA and Amtrak standards and guidelines. Works on electrical systems and components with AC and DC voltage. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Performs inspection, testing and maintenance in accordance with 49CFR regulations and Amtrak standards and guidelines. * Utilizes a variety of test equipment, PC and graphic information to diagnose malfunctions, troubleshoot and qualify components and circuits to determine corrective actions and causes of equipment failures. * Repairs and/or replaces doors, electronics, signs, pantographs and HVAC systems installs components such as motors, generators, switches, relays, batteries and transformers. * Performs approved electrical modifications and repairs or replaces components, as necessary. * Troubleshoots equipment to determine corrective actions and causes of equipment failures. * Maintains proper care and use of materials, test equipment, machines and hand tools normally associated with assigned job. * Must have visual acuity and hearing capability to perform the essential functions of the job unless other vision or hearing standards are required by law. * Must have ability to distinguish and separate sounds around machinery and tools. * Must be able to work safely around loose materials, uneven surfaces and metal plates and equipment. * Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull loads in accordance with all applicable safety rules. * Required to wear safety apparel and equipment when necessary. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: * High school diploma or GED. * Experience in electrical repairs, and testing advanced electrical/electronic systems and reading, drafting, and interpreting circuit diagrams, schematics and mechanical drawings. * Experience in both A/C and D/C electrical systems. * Must successfully complete training and attain/retain certifications applicable to assigned job. * Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems. * Ability to troubleshoot using schematics and multimeters. * Knowledge and skill in the use of electrical tools, equipment and the measurements necessary to meet established standards. * Some computer skills. * Ability to read, write and communicate proficiently. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Completion of technical school or apprenticeship program. * Experience in the maintenance of railroad equipment.
