Job Summary: The ELL Coordinator is responsible for leading BRCPS's English language learner program, including insuring that regulations are met and that ESL students supported appropriately in their academic and language acquisition development. Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing language acquisition support plans (ELL plans) for all ELL students and work with classroom teachers to implement plans.

  • Leads the ELL team, including facilitating monthly team meetings and coordinating the ELL program strategic planning process.

  • Assist in administering required language proficiency and academic achievement tests for determining placement for all ELL students, along with ongoing monitoring of student progress.

  • Maintains, evaluates and improves the school ELL plan and program.

  • Defines and implements co-teaching, pull out and push in support programs for ELL students as appropriate.

  • Assist in developing appropriate curriculum to help ELL students acquire the English language.

  • Keep ELL records in compliance with DESE regulations.

  • Establish and maintain communication with parents of students in the program.

  • Engage parents and families in their student's learning and acting as an ambassador for the school in the community.

  • Participate in in-service and staff development activities and staff meetings as required or assigned.

  • Operate the School's Interpreter/Translation Request system.

  • Work with classroom teachers to support differentiated instruction and provides appropriate professional development.

  • Oversees the adoption and implementation of ELL curriculum, including a newcomer program.

  • Maintains records of all ELL students and their status.

  • Attend IEP, Section 504, or other related meetings necessary for student assessment and/or compliance with federal and/or state law.

  • Assist in compiling and maintaining a profile summary (record of achievement and progress) for each student.

  • Additional duties may be assigned without additional compensation or stipend.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree

  • Massachusetts Teacher Licensure

  • Demonstrated knowledge of reading, writing and literacy development.

  • Requires the ability to work with teachers, parents, coaches, sponsors, and students in a variety of situations and work effectively in a team-oriented school.

  • Must possess the ability to identify professional development strategies that will positively impact teachers' professional growth and student achievement.

  • Has taken an active role in educational leadership.
