The Briarcliff Manor SD is seeking an eager and highly qualified Elementary School Teacher to serve as an Elementary Teacher Librarian in the Todd Elementary School Library.

Minimum Certification Required: NYS Childhood Education 1-6
Additional Preferred Certification: NYS Library Media Specialist K-12; NYS Literacy
Salary: Briarcliff Teachers' Association Salary Schedule
Idea Qualifications of a Candidate:
The ideal candidate should demonstrate a love of reading, a deep and extensive knowledge of literature, digital media and thorough expertise in information systems. The Teacher Librarian is responsible for helping to develop critical thinkers who recognize how to access all modes of information and assess the credibility of all information from a variety of mediums. The teacher will collaborate in designing curricula, developing learning experiences and provide a unique and forward-thinking learning and collaboration space. The preferred candidate will thrive on being creative and flexible and eager to ignite passion in others.
Job Responsibilities:
Instruct students in information and technology literacy skills, including reading for understanding, the research process, engaging inquiry, collaboration, critical thinking, developing multiple literacies, and understanding copyright, fair use, and licensing of intellectual property.
Work as an instructional partner by collaborating with teaching staff in preparing and delivering lessons that embed research-based best practices to engage students in projects and activities that require effective use of information resources, an understanding of digital literacy and build literacy skills in all disciplines.
Actively promote reading, information literacy skills, and information resource use through activities including book clubs, reading programs, reading initiatives, and other special events.
Help students to develop habits of independent research and skills in the use of all reference materials in relation to planned assignments.
Provides guidance to students in the selection of library materials.
Maintain a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging and managing all library materials to promote the school library as a place students can visit to enrich their learning experience.
Establish annual and long-term measurable goals for the school library media program that are aligned with the district and school mission and objectives.
Exude passion and mastery of technology applications and tools to enhance digital media skills amongst students.
Preferred Experience:
Librarian and/or Library Media instruction
Digital literacy and digital mediums
Elementary classroom teaching
