QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS:

• Valid Texas Special Education Teaching Certificate.

• Minimum of one semester of student teaching or approved internship in a TEA recognized alternative certification program.

• Ability to communicate and maintain a good working relationship with other adults.

• Ability to maintain self-control in high-stress situations.

• Ability to adjust to a variety of work environments.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Demonstrate flexibility within the work environment.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide instruction to assigned individuals in a structured classroom environment designed to promote intellectual, emotional, and social growth.

• Implement individualized educational and behavioral programs that are appropriate to the ages and populations served.

• Collect data on targeted behavior/social goals to assess if interventions are appropriate

• Utilize district/state approved research based strategies to promote appropriate student behavior, incl. implementation of systematic interventions to de-escalate student behavior.

• Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, interventions, and equipment that reflect an understanding of disabilities and the needs of students.

• Provide training and support to General Education teachers and paraprofessionals

• Participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee to share current instructional strengths and needs and recommend goals, supports and services.

• Establish a positive rapport and collaborate with students, parents, and campus staff.
