Elementary School Teacher

Position Purpose

As part of our school community, the teacher will facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through the implementation of district approved curriculum/initiatives; documenting student progress; addressing specific educational needs of individual students, by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing timely feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress.

Essential Functions

• Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction

• Ensures that student behavior is conducive to a functional learning space

• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials that translate into learning experiences that follow approved curriculum/initiatives and adhere to school guidelines for instructional delivery

• Continually utilizes assessments and classroom observations to monitor student progress and modify instructional methods to fit individual student's needs

• Instructs students in the principles of responsible citizenship following school initiatives and brain research based methods

• Continually seeks to grow in their educational knowledge by being an active participant in school provided professional development opportunities

• Organizes and maintains a system for accurate record keeping and reporting of student growth, attendance, and behavior to parents and administration

• Encourages parental involvement and is proactive/involved with school to home communication and family engagement offerings

• Collaboration with school staff is positive, flexible to student need and viewed with a problem solving lens to best meet the needs of all students at our school

• Supervises students in activities that occur both in and out of the classroom (hallway transitions, arrival/dismissal, recess)

• Exemplary communication skills with students, parents, and school personnel

• Willingness to engage in self-evaluation with regard to personal growth and performance

• Ability to incorporate available technology to enhance instruction

• Ability to foster and maintain cooperative and collaborative working relationships with members of the school family, parents, and our community

Qualifications

Indiana State Teaching License for the appropriate grade/content area

Education

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or related discipline applicable to the teaching assignment

Experience

Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels is a plus
