General Purpose
The Principal is central to the viability of a school. Michigan City Area Schools is looking for an instructional leader who will be able to build on the work of current faculty and administration.
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities
Leads the implementation, engagement, and monitoring of district curriculum programs with integrity and fidelity
Active participation in and support of district professional development to support leadership development and student achievement
Supports instructional coaching cycles through the implementation, support, and monitoring of the district model
Create and monitor continuous cycles of improvement through the use of formative assessment, data analysis, and reteaching
Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school
Promotes and models cultural competencies and equity through leadership and professional development activities.
Leads school improvement through the use of an effective site-based shared decision-making model
Supervises and evaluates programs and activities, and staff
Develops and implements effective school/community relationships
Provides professional development aligned with district goals that develop knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors designed to accelerate student achievement on targeted topics focused on our diverse student population.
Supervises the maintenance of all required building records and reports
Interprets and enforces district policies and administrative regulations
Leads others in setting and achieving a coherent organizational structure based on current strengths and weaknesses that create conditions for continuous school improvement
Provide instructional leadership that utilizes a variety of data sources and recognizes the complexity and centrality of teaching and learning
Create and nurture a positive, supportive and inclusive school climate
Manage operations and resources effectively
Works collaboratively with other elementary principals, district directors, and members of the central administrative staff on district-wide planning and resolution of district-wide concerns
Keeps the Superintendent informed of the school's activities and issues that may arise in the building
Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
Education and Experience
Master's degree or higher from an accredited institution
Meet school administration and state requirements of Michigan City Area Schools and the State of Indiana
