Position Summary:
The ideal candidate for the principal position at Earl Hanson Elementary School should be a highly organized, approachable leader with substantial experience in special education and a deep understanding of diverse educational programs, including gifted and general education. This candidate must excel in effective communication, demonstrating the ability to handle sensitive conversations with tact and compassion. Staff have emphasized the importance of integrity, trustworthiness, and the ability to make and stand by difficult decisions. In terms of practices, the new principal should continue supporting successful current initiatives such as the intervention groups and the AVID program, while also being flexible enough to assess and adjust practices as needed. The staff advocates for the introduction of more inclusive communication and discipline policies that ensure fairness and consistency. Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Educational Endeavors
Analyze data to develop continuous improvement plans, incorporating training, professional development, and regular reviews and adaptations.
Develops and evaluates educational programs to ensure conformance to state and school board standards.
Develops and coordinates educational programs through meetings with staff, review of teachers' activities, and issuance of directives
Develops and administers educational programs for students with mental or physical disabilities.
Develops and implements a safe and orderly environment for learning.
Budgeting
Manages school's budget and makes appropriate allocations that improves the school's effectiveness.
Requisitions and allocates supplies, equipment, and instructional material as needed
Stays abreast and utilizes Title funding sources and other State appropriations appropriately.
Communications
Establishes and maintains relationships with colleges, community organizations, and other schools to coordinate educational services.
Maintains good public relations with student families and community members
Participates in school events
Confers with teachers, students, and parents concerning educational and behavioral problems in school.
In addition, the school principal promotes positive morale and follows the strategic guidelines/direction set forth by the Rock Island-Milan School District #41.
Supervision
Directly supervises faculty and other employees in the school.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Direct preparation of class schedules, cumulative records, and attendance reports.
Walk about school buildings and property to monitor safety and security.
Plans and directs building maintenance.
Qualifications
General Administrative Endorsement:
Hold at least a master's degree with coursework in educational administration and supervision
Complete a state-approved program for the preparation of school administrators (or a comparable out-of-state or foreign program).
Required Qualifications:
Three years of successful teaching experience on a valid and current teaching certificate, either in Illinois or another state.
At least three years of school leadership experience as a dean of students, dean of instruction, an assistant principal or other similar school leadership experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience as a school principal.
Doctorate of Education, or Administration/Leadership, or Early Childhood, etc.
Certifications, and Licenses:
Must hold a valid and current Illinois teaching certificate, such as early childhood, elementary, secondary, special K-12, or special preschool-age 21.
Illinois Administration/Principal Certification - (Type 75 Illinois State Administrative Certificate.)
Salary/Benefits
Salary Range: $113,837 - $135,004 (210 Days)
