Summary:

The Elementary Music/Performing Arts Teacher instructs students in vocal, instrumental, and/or general music.

Responsibilities:

• Teach district approved curriculum that covers (but is not limited to) musical concepts such as pitch, rhythm, expression and music theory.

• Plan and execute individual school concerts, recitals and other music performances.

• Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

• Sing and model the playing of an instrument.

• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. Maintain inventory of instruments and equipment.

• Develop lesson plans and instructional material and provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.

• Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.

• Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals; establish and communicate clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects.

• Assist the administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct. For the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.

• Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.

Qualifications:

• Current Michigan teaching certificate with Music endorsement is required. A candidate should hold at least a Bachelor's degree in Music Education. Introductory training in major pedagogies is suggested.

• Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures and government regulations.

• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents.

• Skill in oral and written communication.

• Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Schedule:

24/25 School Year

This position will teach at .60 FTE at Roosevelt and .20 FTE at ZQuest.
