General Description of Position Duties:
The elementary Literacy Instructional Coaches will provide instructional support and coaching for teachers as they work to ensure that each student can reach their academic potential. The Literacy Instructional Coach's primary role is to work with teachers to support best practices in using data, provide analysis of school-wide trends in instruction, and make recommendations about potential next steps to address areas of need. As an advisor to teachers and administrators, the Literacy Instructional Coaches are responsible for four main areas:
Observing instructional delivery and providing feedback to enhance and support the development of each teacher's content area
Supporting teachers in the design of units and lessons to support curriculum
Analyzing data inform instruction and develop assessments to meet students' needs
Working with the academic staff (grade level chairs and building administrators) to support best practices in literacy instruction
Special Skills, Training or Aptitudes Required or Desire:
Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education
Indiana Teaching Licensure
Experience working with adult learners, coaching teachers, and providing professional development
A deep understanding of current research regarding literacy, including the diagnostic teaching of reading and reading intervention
An understanding of the Indiana College and Career Readiness Standards for ELA, and current trends and best practices in curriculum design and instruction
At least 3 years of ELA teaching experience in an elementary school setting
Strong record of helping students achieve academic success
Significant experience with ELA curriculum development and daily lesson planning
Multi-faceted, multi-skilled, resourceful, and willing to do whatever it takes to help our students reach a level of academic excellence
Model positive and healthy character traits and habits, such as being organized, consistent and understanding
Possess integrity and commitment to the LCSC mission and willingness to serve the LCSC Community
Knowledge and understanding of the current research associated with the Science of Reading
Physical and Mental Efforts:
This position requires a high level of physical and mental endurance.
Sitting in an office/classroom environment, performing tasks on a computer or other technical devices.
Frequent standing, particularly for sustained periods of time.
Frequent walking, moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one part of the building to another.
Constantly talking, expressing, or exchanging ideas to colleagues and/or students accurately, loudly, or quickly.
Ability to hear and listen to detailed information through oral communication.
Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision and distance vision.
Ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time.

Position Will Be At: Each of the Elementary Literacy Coaches will be assigned to one of the four elementary schools as well as work as a collaborative team on district-wide planning and implementation.
