PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

The OMME 5-Week Academic Enrichment program helps English/multilingual learners improve their language skills and reach their full potential. Our program is carefully crafted to cater to the unique needs of students with varying levels of English proficiency, enabling them to focus on specific aspects of language development, including reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills. Our interactive and engaging language-rich learning activities are designed with a project-based learning approach that fosters a supportive and enjoyable environment for students to practice and refine their language skills. The program features a comprehensive academic curriculum that includes Math and ESL/English Language Arts, ensuring that cognitively demanding tasks and grade-level complex texts are accessible to multilingual learners. In addition to academics, our program also offers a diverse range of enrichment activities, including STEM, Arts, Leadership Building, and Physical Fitness, tailored to the needs of English/multilingual learners entering 1st-12th grades.

Position Summary:

This is a summer program coordinated by the Office of Multilingual and Multicultural Education (OMME) in order to support EL acceleration in English language acquisition and development. Coordinators hired are expected to adhere to the vision and mission of OMME, which is to provide a culturally and linguistically responsive education with the support needed to ensure equitable access to opportunities that promote language acquisition, bilingualism, biliteracy, and lifelong learning.

Site Coordinators will supervise, guide, assist, and facilitate all classroom responsibilities, including the learning environment, lesson plan implementation, assessment, classroom management, parent communication, and classroom observations.

For example, if the site operates from 8:00 am-2:00 pm, the coordinator will work from 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM with additional pre-planning, Monday to Friday, beginning on July 8th, 2024, and ending on August 9th, 2024. Job responsibilities will require additional time for site prep, data entry, data analysis, and communications with families.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide effective leadership and management oversight at the designated program site.

  • Take part in the hiring process for teachers and paraprofessionals.

  • Support initiatives to recruit, enroll, and actively engage students in the EL Summer Learning Academies.

  • Manage the SchoolMint summer enrollment system by monitoring enrollment numbers and proactively recruiting students.

  • Conduct outreach to students to confirm enrollment before and during the program duration.

  • Cultivate strong relationships and foster collaborative efforts with school administration, summer school staff, and parents.

  • Act as the liaison between the Summer School and OMME at the Central Office.

  • Ensure the successful implementation of the OMME program model by building a cohesive team, fostering positive outcomes, and delivering a high-quality experience for scholars.

  • Maintain a safe learning environment by adhering to district Code of Conduct protocols and safety procedures outlined in the Superintendent's newsletter and other relevant policies.

  • Manage student attendance, grades, progress reports, parent communication, and disciplinary actions.

  • Supervise the administration of summer district-wide assessments to all enrolled students and coordinate formative and summative assessment schedules.

  • Oversee the utilization of data-driven instruction, emphasizing formative assessments for instructional planning.

  • Review lesson plans and promote the adoption of 'best practice' instructional strategies.

  • Implement and uphold a positive behavior management system that aligns with program goals and fosters a conducive learning atmosphere.

  • Ensure timely receipt, distribution, and maintenance of curriculum and supplies throughout the program.

  • Be prepared to provide coverage during teacher or teacher assistant absences.

  • Coordinate logistics for any applicable field trips.

  • Respect the confidentiality of colleagues, students, and families.

  • Supervise common areas such as breakfast, lunches, hallways, and transitions daily.

  • Facilitate fifteen-minute briefing/check-in sessions each morning with staff.

  • Coordinate end-of-program activities, including artifact presentations and summaries of program objectives.

  • Ensure all pertinent student information is shared with OMME at the Central Office.

  • Coordinate site cleanup and program shutdown procedures.

  • Complete all "wrap-up" duties as required.

Program Delivery: fully in-person

Program Start Date: Monday, July 8, 2024

Program End Date: Friday, August 9, 2024

Hours:

General hours include a 6-hour work day and additional prep/planning time depending on specific sites. For example, programming at sites could have a duration of 8:00 am

  • 2 pm or 9:30am

  • 3:30 pm, Monday

  • Friday. Job responsibilities will require site prep, data entry, data analysis, communications to families planning, and prep time outside the hours' instruction.

Qualifications

  • Required:
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree

  • License: ESL License and/or SEI Endorsement

  • Experience: Demonstrated experience working with English Learners and/or Students with Interrupted Formal Education.

  • Preferred prior experience as an After School or Summer Site leader.

  • Authorization: Current authorization to work in the United States

  • Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment

Terms:

Schedule:

  • Pre-Summer: Scheduled planning meetings & PD, Regular check-in with w/non-profit partner & school liaison(s), curriculum training, Staff Hiring, and on-site planning.

  • During Summer: the BPS site coordinator is required to be on site every day for all hours of programming for all weeks.

  • Post-Summer: Some "wrap-up" duties (such as student progress reports, and curriculum inventory) occur immediately following the conclusion of summer learning programming.

Compensation:

  • $55.16/hr

  • Total compensation is set based on hours of work, including professional development, on-site program time, and additional duties. Compensation differs based on the Summer Learning Academy program.

  • Site-specific job requirements, program hours, and training schedules are to be determined by the EL Summer Learning Academy program. Agreement to site-specific terms is required for hire.

  • Payroll will be processed on a biweekly basis after receipt of completed timesheets in accordance with the BPS summer payroll schedule.

  • (Stipend includes pre-summer planning & student outreach/engagement, curriculum planning/training, and summer programming).

HR & Payment:

  • The position reports to OMME Supplemental Service Program Manager. Interested candidates should apply via Talent Ed. Payroll will be processed in accordance with the BPS summer payroll schedule and reception of completed time sheets.
