Lavina School: Elementary Teacher

Job Summary: An elemtnary teacher is responsible for creating a dynamic learning environment for elementary school students. This role involves developing and implementing age-appropriate curriculum, fostering a supportive and inclusive classroom community, and collaborating with colleagues, parents, and community members to ensure student success. The ideal candidate will have a passion for education, a commitment to meeting the diverse needs of students, and the ability to thrive in a rural setting.

Responsibilities:

• Curriculum Development: Develop engaging lesson plans and instructional materials aligned with state and national standards for elementary education. Adapt curriculum to meet the needs and interests of students in a rural setting.

• Classroom Instruction: Deliver effective instruction using a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities. Foster a positive and respectful classroom environment conducive to learning.

• Assessment and Evaluation: Assess student progress through formal and informal methods, including tests, quizzes, projects, and observations. Use assessment data to inform instruction and provide targeted support to students as needed.

• Individualized Support: Provide individualized instruction and support to students who may require additional assistance or enrichment. Collaborate with special education teachers, counselors, and other support staff to address the diverse needs of students.

• Parent and Community Engagement: Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to share student progress, address concerns, and solicit feedback. Foster positive relationships with community members and organizations to enhance educational opportunities for students.

• Professional Development: Stay current with best practices in elementary education and participate in ongoing professional development activities. Collaborate with colleagues to share resources, strategies, and expertise.

• Classroom Management: Establish and maintain clear expectations for behavior and academic performance. Implement effective classroom management strategies to promote a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment.

• Cultural Sensitivity: Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity in working with students from diverse backgrounds. Respect and celebrate the unique cultural identities and experiences of students and their families.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or a related field

• State teaching certification or licensure

• Experience teaching elementary school students, preferably in a rural setting

• Strong knowledge of elementary curriculum and instructional strategies

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and community members

• Flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to embrace the challenges and rewards of teaching in a rural environment

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand, sit, and move around the classroom for extended periods

• Lift and carry instructional materials, supplies, and equipment as needed

• Ability to navigate rural school facilities and outdoor environments

Lavina currently has an enrollment of 70 PK-12 students. We are a class C school located in Golden Valley County within 45 minutes of Billings. Our community is primarily composed of agriculture families.
