Duties
Responsibilities and Duties:
Adheres to the Board of Education policies and procedures.
Strives to implement by the performance of job responsibilities the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
Conduct structured, goal-oriented counseling sessions in a systematic response to identified needs of individuals or groups of students. Session topics may include, but are not limited to, academic failure, grief, family issues, self-concept, child abuse, behavior problems, substance abuse and other specific needs from building to building as determined by the building principal.
Consults with teachers, parents and staff regarding the developmental needs of students: conducts or coordinates professional development for faculty; acts as a resource person for faculty, staff and parents; conducts conferences with teachers, students and/or parents; conducts or provides opportunities for parent education; assists families with school related problems.
Guides and counsels groups and individual students through the development of educational, personal and social plans: provides assistance in orientation of students new to the school, assists students in the transition from elementary to middle school, provides resources and information to assist in career awareness and career exploration activities; structures activities to address the Illinois Social-Emotional Learning Standards.
Provides parents and students with information regarding special programs and/or community agencies: consults and coordinates with in-district and community-based specialists and/or resources.
Participates in activities that contribute to the development of a positive school climate: establishes effective liaisons with all grade levels, acts as an advocate for students as appropriate in conjunction with other staff, consults with school staff regarding the placement of students with special needs, participates with the administration and faculty as a building team member, promotes communication between the school and community.
Provides intervention during crisis situations: develops, initiates, and complies with the district's crisis intervention plan in conjunction with the administration and staff; provides appropriate facilities, materials, and services warranted by the specific incident. Crisis may include severe accidents or a sudden death as a result of homicide, suicide, accident or the fatal illness of a student, staff, or significant members within the school community district wide and individual buildings.

Qualifications
Requirements:
School Service Personnel-Type 73 or other certificate endorsed for guidance/counseling
Bilingual preferred
Salary/Benefits
Placed as appropriate on the Teachers' Salary Schedule (base- $45,883.)
