SUMMARY: The assistant principal provides support to the principal and the instructional process with specific responsibility for directing assigned programs and services.
The assistant principal serves as a resource to others; supervises assigned staff; coordinates school activities and addresses issues, situations and/or problems that arise on campus or with enrolled students. The assistant principal will complete all assigned duties within compliance and instructions of the principal, superintendent, assistant superintendent, Board of Education, pertinent laws, state and federal regulations and district policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The performance responsibilities of this position may include but not be limited to the following:
Come to work each day adequately prepared, both physically and mentally, to perform the following duties:
In conjunction with the administrators and staff, ensure that the district's philosophy of education; educational goals and policies are achieved.
Ensure that state and federal mandates are followed (i.e. affirmative action, special education)
Collaborates with the administration, staff, students, and community to develop an efficient, effective, and current curriculum that is aligned with state and federal standards and board policies.
Facilitate communication between personnel, students and/or parents for the purpose of evaluating situations, solve problems and/or resolving conflicts.
Implements policies, procedures and/or processes under the supervision of the principal.
Intervene in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students for the purpose of assisting students in modifying such behavior and developing successful interpersonal skills.
Manage a variety of school administrative functions for the purpose of enforcing school, district and state policy and maintaining safety and efficiency of school operations.
Participate in meetings, workshops, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
Prepare a wide variety of materials for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.
Represent the school within the community to maintain ongoing community support for educational goals and/or assist with issues related to school environment.
Assist with establishing high expectations and standard for behavior and performance.
Works with the principal and the superintendent to ensure that programs and procedures are implemented and maintained that protect the employees' due process rights, medical wellbeing, and safety.
Assist in monitoring the efforts of staff in implementing curriculum, assure the approved curriculum is being taught.
In conjunction with administration, develop, implement, and maintain budget.
Communicate effectively with the staff, public and parents.
Maintain a positive school climate.
Perform other duties as assigned by the principal within the scope of the job.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATION: Master's degree; minimum of three years' experience as a classroom teacher and/or in an instructional leadership role; valid Arkansas building level administrator license.
Attendance:
Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period, and to be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences, during the contract year.
