PURPOSE OF JOB: Teaches various arts to students in Elementary School.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Teaches skills in the various arts to elementary students.

  • Plans a balanced art program and organizes daily class time so that student preparation for class and instructions are accomplished within the allotted time.

  • Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each individual student.

  • Utilizes a variety of art materials and subjects that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of the students.

  • Controls the storage and use of art supplies.

  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment.

  • Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.

  • Identifies pupils' needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health problems.

  • Supervises students in out-of-class activities.

  • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.

  • Participates in facility committees and sponsorship of student activities.

  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities related to art.

  • Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education from a four-year College or University.

  • Missouri Art Teaching Certification (K-12)

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Length of work year: 8 hours per day; 5 days/week; 185 workdays

KCPS Defined Benefit Pension plan - mandatory 9% contribution is required from employee and matched by KCPS; Voluntary retirement savings plans are also available.

(CBM's) * Guides independent study, enrichment work, and mastery work set up as assigned by the classroom * teacher. * Reads to students, listens to students read, and participates in other forms of oral communication with * students. * May lead large group activities while the classroom teacher is conferencing with students. * Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, etc. * Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of * the classroom teacher. * Serves as a substitute for the classroom teacher, as assigned or required, on an emergency basis. * Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as * expected of a fully licensed teacher. * May be assigned limited routine clerical duties such as filing, typing, etc. * May be assigned a specific assignment such as hallway supervision, bus duty, car rider duty, in school * suspension, after school suspension, etc. * Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills. * Complies with all district rules, regulations, and policies. * Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position. * Other duties as required or assigned. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The individual who holds this position is regularly required to walk, hear and speak and must have close moderate and distance vision ability. This individual must be able to travel between district facilities. The position requires a moderate amount of travel and physical activity.
