The Position
The City Council has approved a 3.3% cost of living adjustment (COLA) for all eligible employees of the City of Portland for the fiscal year, effective from July 1, 2024. As a result, the salary for this position may increase due to the approved COLA.

Position Summary: The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is seeking an Electronics Technician II-Traffic Signal within the Traffic Signals, Street Lighting & ITS Division. This division specifically plans, designs, builds, and maintains the city's traffic signals, street lighting systems, and ITS systems, which consist of approximately 1,150 traffic signals, 55,000 street lights, 70 rectangular rapid flash beacons, 170 school beacons, radar feedback signs, CCTV cameras, Variable Message Signs, Communication equipment and various other electrical elements throughout the City of Portland.
What you'll get to do:
Install, configure, monitor, and maintain PBOT's roadside CCTV camera systems.
Manage PBOT's traffic signal interconnect communication network, including outside plant fiber optic, copper VDSL, wireless radios.
Maintain electronic variable message signs and other low voltage roadside Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices.
Assist with inspection of joint-use utility pole attachments on capital improvement projects.
Identify and address NESC code violations during maintenance activities.
Maintain, test, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of traffic signal equipment.
Collaborate with electricians and engineers to test traffic signal controllers and cabinets in the shop before field implementation
Perform routine and preventative maintenance on traffic signal controllers and ITS devices.
Operate a variety of hand and power tools.
Execute other tasks, as assigned.
An ideal candidate will have experience with electronics maintenance and testing. Experience with traffic signal controllers or communications is a plus. They will also be able to self-organize and complete testing and projects with minimal supervision. Open communication with other staff is essential.
The starting pay for this position is $38.30 hourly; after six months, the pay will be $43.56 hourly; at one year, the pay will be $46.44 hourly.

To Qualify
Applicants should specifically address and demonstrate in their work history form, and answers to supplemental questions how their education, training, and/or experience meet each of the following minimum qualifications:
Abilityto perform, understand, and document layout and sketchdesigns for communications, electronic installations, and modifications including your ability to ensure compliance with established codes, standards, laws and policies.
Experience providing technical expertise regarding electrical and communications equipment.
Ability to maintain records, supplies, and equipment.
Abilityto work with hand and power tools.
Applicant must also possess:
Limited Energy Class A or B License; or Higher level/broader electrical license may be substituted
Valid State Driver's License with an acceptable driving record
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Ability to work in confined spaces, and in and around traffic
Ability to work while exposed to electric currents
Ability to work during emergencies
A Prehire Evaluation Exam may be required after employment offer.
