Performs skilled electronics technical support work. Work involves installing, diagnosing, maintaining and repairing electronic systems and equipment; operating and testing circuits and calibrating electronic instruments. Work requires contact with departmental employees and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
The essential duties for this job include:
Assists in the operation, repair and installation of WAN communications with shore facility on all ferries, and surveillance camera systems at the landings, in the compound and in the ferries.
Assists with electrical repairs, installations, and computer wiring in departmental buildings.
Coordinates work activities and troubleshoots microprocessor controlled, telephone systems and radio equipment such as, mobile radios, base stations and miscellaneous electrical equipment.
Installs, removes, tests and repairs mobile two-way radio equipment.
Maintains the telephone key systems and configures and implements communication products including the voice -mail systems.
Performs general maintenance of electronics on ferries to include surveillance camera systems, engine monitoring, radars, AIS, satelite compass, fathometer, alarm systems and misc compenents.
Receives and processes work orders and coordinates equipment repairs and maintenance.
Trains technicians in equipment repair and troubleshooting.
Works on additional electronic equipment or telephone systems.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Safety Impact certifications are not required at the time of application. As required, the Safety Impact, Commercial Driver and/or Vessel Crewmember certification(s) will be issued by TxDOT at the time of hire.
Must pass a drug test prior to employment for commercial driver, safety impact and vessel crewmember positions. Commercial drivers, safety impact employees and vessel crewmembers will be subject to additional drug and alcohol testing during employment.
Must have or obtain within 90 calendar days from date of employment a Transportation Worker Identification Credential.
Required to work weekends and holidays.
Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.
Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.
Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.
