Summary:

This position will broadly support all facets of electronics hardware product engineering from concept through production on the development of large-scale battery energy storage systems. The primary focus of this role is to collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, product management, manufacturing, supply chain, quality teams and drive improvements in the functionality and repeatability of electronics hardware designs and a structured release to production teams globally through a well-documented process.

Additionally, this position supports electronics product safety initiatives, safety reviews, study work, new product introduction (NPI), engineering change processes, assist end-of-line testing projects, and provide electronics guidance collaboratively with a team of mechanical, electrical, compliance and R&D engineers locally and in Asia.

Job Details:

• Develop technical design specifications aligned to product market requirements to improve product functionality/repeatability

• Seek out innovative and cost-effective electronics PCBAs design solutions

• Lead harmonization of product designs across international markets

• Drive collaboration with project and manufacturing teams to feedback improvements into future design iterations

• Interact with Mechanical and Electrical Engineers to simplify electronics integration within complex electromechanical assemblies

• Provide input to new design concepts and evaluate electronics integration requirements within BESS systems.

• Provide ways to increase market access (via lower cost, enhanced functionality, or fast-time-to-market) and improve electronics products applications for our customers

• Primary point of contact for internal requests for information relating to subject matter expertise

• Drive electronics engineering changes, ECOs, NPI and product lifecycle management processes

• Interpret and apply relevant local and international codes and standards applicable to electronics design including but not limited to; IEC, NFPA, NEMA, UL, CSA, EN

• Interface with supply chain and manufacturing teams to ensure sourcing and manufacturability of designs and implement learnings to future designs

• Collaborate directly with global engineering team counterparts through front-end design, prototyping, BOMs, and design documentation updates

• Partner with Safety Engineer in electronics safety studies for large scale Energy Storage Systems, including short circuit analysis, arc flash, and thermal impact of PCBs etc.

• Define electronics product specifications and develop end of line test plans for new/current products

• Drive the development and maintenance of electronics models of current and new products

• Seek innovative solutions to improve safety, functionality and cost of Energy Storage Systems

• Support other duties, such as supporting overall electronics design, supporting test group, supporting manufacturing, and site visits

• Mentor and collaborate with junior staff

• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or equivalent with emphasis on PCB design or related fields

• Minimum of 7+ years of industry experience

• 10 years of industry experience preferred.

• Previous experience with electronics hardware, PCBA board design, component selection, DfM for mass production

• Experience with electronics circuits modeling software or EDA such as Allegro, Altium, Ansys, Cadence, 3D modeling etc.

• Experience with engineering design verification (EVT/DVT) methodologies, lab bench-top testing and qualification of prototypes

• Knowledge of BESS and related international standards such as NFPA855, NFPA70, UL1973, UL9540/A, UL796, UL94, UL61010 or demonstrated experience learning and applying standards in adjacent highly regulated industries

• Proven ability to drive safety projects initiatives to completion

• Ability to independently manage multiple projects and drive electronics improvements within budget and timeline constraints

• Ability to work cross functionally, explain designs and concepts to others with different backgrounds/degrees

• Flexible with design iterations and changes in direction as per dynamic nature of the industry

• Good analytical, problem-solving skills, attention-to-detail and can work independently while managing workload of multiple projects and tasks

• Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support international teams

• Strong proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

• Limited travel requirements
