Facebook's Connectivity Team is looking for strong subject matter experts to design, implement and deploy future novel communication technologies. To be successful at this role you must have engineering fundamentals to draw on and possess deep understanding of communication and electronic systems. You will be surrounded by top notch engineers and they expect you to be able to keep up with them. The engineer will be responsible for understanding product definition and specifications, evaluate, develop and characterize communication systems using off-the-shelf integrated and discrete components. You will be responsible for system design, integration, debug and bring up in the lab and the field with a vision and clear path on transitioning the product to high volume manufacturing. Understanding and balancing the engineering trade-offs between performance, cost, lead-time and manufacturability is key.


  • Deep technical understanding of Analog/Digital Circuit Design (including processor, FPGA, memory, ADC/DAC, interconnects, power distribution, digital interfaces, printed circuit boards, embedded systems, power/signal integrity etc.)

Solid understanding of signal integrity optimization on high speed digital interfaces, familiarity with SerDes design, equalization, and experience with industry SI simulation tools

Timing/clocking distribution system design, PLL design, analysis (example - IEEE 1588, Sync-E)

Solid understanding of embedded systems, familiarity with device drivers and firmware configuration

Ability to make performance/features vs cost/manufacturability tradeoffs regarding layout, BoM, and placement

Broad understanding of thermal, mechanical, and SW requirements and issues related to digital/analog subsystem integration into the overall product

Ability to work cross-functionally with RF/Antenna, ME and Software engineers

Energy and drive to work in a startup environment, and be a team player

Detail oriented and diligent, balanced with rapid execution in a fast-paced environment


  • BS in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline with a minimum of 4 years of experience or graduate degree with minimum 4 years experience

Minimum 4 years experience with mixed signal circuit design, component selection, schematic design

Knowledge of power supply design, power integrity measurements, optimizations, and experience with industry PI simulation tools

Hands-on experience with system bring-up in the lab and factory, and subsystem verification

Experience with standard test equipment (logic analyzers, network analyzers, scopes, spectrum analyzers, etc.)


  • Experience with large volume production issues and techniques (REL, DFM, DFT, OPS, Procurement)

VIEW JOBS 12/23/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-03-23T00:00 The Electronics Engineering Division (EED) at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is responsible for the electronics engineering systems for all accelerators and many test facilities throughout SLAC. The EED Electronics and Control Hardware Department is seeking a highly motivated Electrical Engineer to provide support for many activities in the division, in particular with planning, developing and managing an extensive cabling plant for distribution of both power, signal level and network connections. As part of the Electronics Engineering team you will partner with senior engineering staff to develop and deploy a diverse range of electronics and control systems. Your specific responsibilities include: * Design and support cable plant and other electrical & control systems. * Develop specifications and complete drawing packages for subcontracts. * Generate cost estimates for design and installation of cable plant and other electrical systems for new and existing experiments. * Prepare wire lists, schematics, cut sheets and other documents and instructions for technicians and others to accomplish safe and functional installations. * Provide quality control functions for accelerator infrastructure projects and provide technical support to field supervise coordinators, technicians, and other SLAC personnel. * Determine design approaches and parameters with general guidance and consultation with senior staff. * Analyzes equipment to establish operating data, conducts experimental tests and evaluates results. * Determine electrical infrastructure requirements including material and methods and ensure conformance to National Electric Code (NEC) and SLAC standards. * Specify and research electronics equipment racks by identifying varied requirements, adhering to NEC, NRTL, and seismic regulations and standards. * Maintain documentation for the accelerator electrical and electronic systems. . * Contribute in the management of cost and schedule for electronic projects, utilizing approved project management tools. * May provide work leadership and technical direction to S&E Associates, S&E Technicians, and/or students and oversee subcontractors. To be successful in this position you will bring: * Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related engineering discipline and 2 years of directly related technical experience supporting electronics and controls systems and planning, developing and managing cabling plant distribution systems. * Solid foundation in CAD design techniques, design rules and specifications; AutoCAD or Orcad experience preferred. * Demonstrated ability to execute designs and coordinate implementation of technical projects, or operational assignments from beginning to end, using project management principles. * Knowledge of electrical safety principles and practices. * Working knowledge of the National Electric Code, NFPA-70 & NFPA70E. * Excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability to interact effectively with scientists and engineers in defining goals and contributing to their realization. * Proficiency in basic computer skills, i.e. word processors, spreadsheets, presentation and project tracking software * Excellent organizational and record keeping skills. In addition, preferred requirements include: * 3D Modeling experience is highly valuable * Experience with accelerator and beamline electronic systems. * Experience with the installation and/or operation of the following types of systems: * Electrical power distribution. * Database management tools. * Electronic equipment and electronics enclosures. * Personnel safety and equipment interlocks. * Knowledge of networking hardware and protocols. * Solid understanding of electrical/electronic engineering principles. * Experience in testing and debugging field devices and test equipment. Certifications and licenses: * Professional Engineer license (PE) in the State of California or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire.
