The Engineering and Technology Directorate (ETD), Electrical Engineering Division, Instrument Electronics Development Branch (Code 564) is seeking a highly experienced individual to serve as a Senior Instrument Avionics System Engineer. The work involves conception, specification, analysis, planning, development, installation, test, modification, and use of avionic systems for both flight and ground applications.

The duties described below are for the highest grade level advertised. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity.
As an Electronics Engineer specializing in Avionic Systems, you will direct and/or manage the development and design of large, new, and unusually complex instrument avionics technology, equipment, or systems that impact national or international programs and result in major advancement in the state-of-the-art of broad technologies. You will manage instrument avionics systems and subsystem interfaces with other divisions.
You will assist in the strategic planning and implementation of flight facility architectures and standards for life cycle integration, verification, and assessment of reliability of instrument avionics systems. You will coordinate resolution of inter-divisional subsystem differences and incompatibilities to ensure that consistent instrument avionics designs are obtained with efficient utilization of program resources. You will conceive, initiate, and perform special studies related to the future of instrument avionics architectures and the appropriate verification methodologies.
You will provide project liaison support for instrument avionics hardware, software, and interface development. You will represent the Center and agency managers to the international avionics community and perform additional data systems and analysis work.
You will serve as a recognized aerospace engineering expert authority, advising and consulting on a national and/or international level. You will direct, manage, and conduct special trade studies and analyses of marked importance that significantly impact the engineering field and lead to major modifications or important extensions of current practices, and resolve key problems facing the organization or agency. You will contribute new designs or techniques that are regarded as major advances or have opened the way for further developments, or have solved problems of great importance to the field, agency or public.

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.
To qualify for the GS-14 grade level, applicants must have one year specialized experience at the next lower grade level (GS-13) designing and providing technical leadership of the architecture, development and delivery of spaceflight instrument avionics hardware, software, and interface system development.
To qualify for the GS-15 grade level, applicants must have one year specialized experience at the next lower grade level (GS-14) leading the design, development and interface of a variety of electrical instrument avionic systems both flight and ground applications. In addition, you must have experience with high level project management concepts, theories and principles related to large scale projects, including planning, scheduling, and management of requirements.

Degrees in engineering technology are not considered to be qualifying for this position.
*Note: Curriculum must include 30 semester hours of course work in a combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science. Of the 30 semester hours, 15 must be in any combination of statistics and mathematics which includes differential and integral calculus.
