The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) team is seeking an engineer to support the WAAS system Implementation team. WAAS is a satellite navigation aid developed by the FAA to augment the Global Positioning System (GPS), with the goal of improving its accuracy, integrity, and availability. The position supports the WAAS field network through systems engineering and implementation of software and hardware modifications.
Responsibilities:
- WAAS field network management and support.
- Research, design, development, testing, evaluation, and maintenance of computer hardware and software systems in an integrated manner.
- Conducts field network system reviews, audits, and testing.
- Technical Instruction book development and maintenance.
- Property/Inventory management.
- Responsible for creating and updating interconnect diagrams and drawings using AutoCAD.
- Development of System Support Modification documentation.
- Adheres to configuration management (CM) requirements, and performs changes as required.
US Citizenship or Permanent Residency required. All applicants must have resided in the United States for the past 3 years.
On-site presence will be as required by the FAA.
- Knowledge of computer operating systems, software and hardware with proven ability to debug complex systems and to conduct reviews, audits and testing.
- Knowledge and understanding of the importance of testing during all phases of the software/hardware development process.
- Familiarity of UNIX and UNIX-like Operating Systems (i.e., AIX, Linux) preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of network protocols and ability to design, implement, and troubleshoot new networks is preferred.
- Experience using AutoCAD to create and update interconnect diagrams and drawings.
- Knowledge of programming languages, scripts and tools used in test and system administration (C, Python, Matlab, Labview, Wireshark).
- Experience working in a team environment.
- Good written and spoken communication including developing technical documentation.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor Degree in Engineering. A degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field such as physics, aerospace, chemistry, computer science, or mathematics may be substituted in lieu of the engineering degree, depending on other qualifications and experience. Students will be considered for an intern position.
