Electronics and Electrical Systems Integration Manager

Function Overview

Whirlpool is currently seeking qualified candidates for our Manager, Electronics and Electrical Systems Integration role. This role will be responsible for the seamless integration of final manufactured products from concept through production validation that delivers product leadership through balanced product solutions that delight consumers and satisfy the needs of the business and stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage system integration of projects in Production Development Projects

  • Ensure project development activities are completed on time, meeting all requirements, including cost, quality & performance targets to support the project plans and project execution

  • Responsible for system level design/cost/quality/time trade-offs and technical decision making for issue resolution within the project/product plan guardrails

  • Lead technical design reviews for project to provide an assessment of whether the project is within the architecture/project/product plan guardrails by working with key development team members (e.g. Subsystem teams, Verification and Validation (V&V) Strategist, Project Leader) and by consulting with key architecture development team members when necessary (e.g. System Architect, Subsystem SMEs, V&V Strategist)

  • Responsible to drive full system validation through use of predictive validation methodologies in concept, design and product validation stages

  • Responsible for driving Product Leadership through the Whirlpool Product Development process, including the following:

  • Manage/Release of engineering bill of materials based on project charter and architecture definition

  • Drive simulation of virtual prototypes and build of physical prototypes per V&V Plan

  • Document total expected variation to +/- 3 sigma distribution for each attribute

  • Document the revision of parts used in builds using baselines

  • Designate high contributing factors toward each function as a Special Characteristics

  • Drive the measurement and documentation of the special characteristics on physical prototypes

  • Drive closure of design failure mode and effect analysis (dFMEA) action plans and updated Occurrence & Detection, based on Concept and Design Validation data and functional performance stacks

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 3+ years experience in project engineering & technical design experience in embedded software/hardware development

  • 2+ years experience in project management

  • Electronics and electrical systems design and integration experience

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

  • Problem solving approach with OPEX certification

  • Systems thinker with INCOSE ASEP or CSEP Certification* or equivalent

  • Ability to work cross-functionally and influence others

  • Technical coaching abilities

The engineer will be a member of Whirlpool's Electronics and Electrical Systems Organization, a global team of close to 500 people developing cutting edge electronics for home appliances. The position reports to the Sensors Team Manager based in North America, with peers in USA, Poland and Brazil. The primary role is to develop new sensor technologies with a global, cross category impact. The day-by-day therefore will require this Lead Engineer to be creative and to deep dive into the physics and electronics of each project in order to fully understand, map and optimize the final solutions. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: * Write specifications for new features and sensors. * Explore multiple technical solutions for each problem and select the appropriate ones. * Work either independently, or through supplier partnerships, to develop new sensor technologies using Electronics, Mechanics and Physics knowledge. * Document all findings through Design Guides and Application Guides. * Validate and release new sensor technologies, allowing easy handover to the product design teams. * Own and contribute to roadmaps and strategic plans on the sensors space. * Lead innovation related initiatives. * Pursue Intellectual Property opportunities. * Availability for regional/international travel, once a year on average MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: * B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Engineering or Computer Science * 10+ years of experience in Electronics/Electromechanics development * 5+ years experience in Sensor development and/or application * 3+ years experience in Hardware development * 5+ years experience in Systems design * 1+ years experience in cameras, radar and optics design and/or their application * 3+ years experience with Electromagnetic Magnetic Compatibility C/EM Interference * 1+ years experience with Intellectual Property practices PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: * Master of Science or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering. * Knowledge/Certification on 6-Sigma tools. * Familiar with UL/IEC standards, preferred IEC 60335-1. * Presentation and communication skills * Ability to work cross-functionally and globally * Proficient in creating schedules and executing them independently RSRWH Whirlpool Corporation (NYSE: WHR) is the world's leading major home appliance company, with approximately $21 billion in annual sales, 92,000 employees and 70 manufacturing and technology research centers in 2017.
