Job Description

REPORTING:

Reports to the Chief Electronic Technician

SUPERVISION:

None

PREREQUISITES / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Work experience and demonstrated ability of oral and written communications may be substituted in lieu of formal education.

  • Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates

  • Knowledge of all technical calculations required for electronic operation of the drilling unit and basic computer skills

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operations/Maintenance:

  • Carry out daily inspections and maintenance on electronic equipment
  • Authority II
  • Comply with the permit to work system
  • Authority I
  • Carry out periodic maintenance according to the Rig Maintenance System (RMS) guidelines and coordinate that maintenance with supervisor and other department heads
  • Authority III
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and repair of all electronic systems including dynamic positioning, communication, data acquisition, computers and navigational equipment
  • Authority II
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and repair electronic systems including, but not limited to, Subsea BOP controls and drilling package instrumentation and electronics

  • Assist in carrying out installation, calibration, and modification of electronic systems and components
  • Authority II
  • Maintain an adequate supply of spares to fulfill maintenance requirements; inform the Chief Electronic Technician when there is need to reorder

  • Inform supervisor and other department heads of any technical problems or limitations that may affect the safe operation of the rig

  • Ensure that reports for repair and maintenance of equipment are accurate and complete
  • Authority II
  • Assist in providing information for maintenance and repair budget

  • Assist with the implementation of the outstanding recommendations from audits, as issued by Clients, Regulatory Authorities or rig management

  • Communicate equipment problems or breakdown information via direct supervisor to Field Support Group

  • Incorporate the THINK planning process into all tasks, whether working alone or as part of a team

  • Participate fully in the START process

  • Ensure subordinate personnel are properly trained in the START process

  • Call a Time Out for Safety (TOFS) whenever an unplanned hazard or a change in the expected results is observed

  • Carry out assigned duties in a safe manner according to Company policies and procedures

  • Actively participate in weekly safety meetings and pre-tour meetings as required

  • Report any incidents, potential hazards or abnormal situations to supervisor and other department heads

  • Respond to emergency situations as per designation on station bill

  • Ensure that all relevant safety procedures and practices are adhered to during mechanical maintenance work

  • Assist in ensuring that a high standard of hygiene and housekeeping is maintained onboard the rig

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for environmental protection.

Vacancies for these roles may not be immediate and are contingent upon rigs being reactivated. Successful candidates must be willing to work anywhere in these regions. Job Summary Responsible for the effective preventative maintenance and where appropriate renewal of all MODU electronic equipment and systems. Principal Duties and Responsibilities * Troubleshoot and program PLC's and SCR control systems * Experience with computers in regards to backup and restoration of systems from ghost images and/or boot drives * Testing and maintenance of fire and gas system * Attend and participate in all pre-tour, post tour and weekly safety meetings * Ensures that activities are conducted in accordance with Ensco Safe System of Work (SSOW). * Ensure compliance with Ensco Management System (EMS) * Ensure that all activities are performed in a timely manner in order to prevent downtime * Responsible for problem solving, repair of electronic circuit boards, installation of wiring and electronic components relating to various items of drilling and associated equipment onboard * Assist Electrician with repairs and replacement of electrical equipment as and when required * Maintains/repairs MODU air condition, refrigeration systems and control systems * Maintains/repairs all intercommunication equipment * Conduct pre-task planning meeting as required and where a work order is required, only undertakes work authorized * Adhere to and follows station bill assignments * Adheres to MODU mobilization procedures and related maintenance as directed by operations manual * Maintains prescribed electronic parts inventory * Maintains tools and equipment and ensure they are in good working order and properly stored * Maintains daily log of activities * Reads and interprets prints, electrical schematics, isometric diagrams and technical manuals * Keep written hand-over notes to ensure efficient and accurate transfer of information * Responsible for all hardware/software associated with Drilling Equipment/Controls Vessel Management System (VMS), Power Management System (PMS), Fire and Gas System and DP Station Keeping Experience * Three (3) or more years working as an Electrician, or Two (2) years as an Electronic Technician with prior offshore experience preferred Education, Training, Licenses and/or Certifications * High School diploma or GED equivalent required * Must meet all the training and certification requirements which will vary by unit location according to local requirements and regulations.
