The Division of Administration/Office of State Buildings has a vacancy.

This vacancy will be filled by new hire or by promotion of a current permanent status classified employee.

This vacancy participates in a career progression group and may be filled from this recruitment as a Electronic Technician Trainee (WS-213) or Electronic Technician (WS-215) depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant. The maximum salary for the Electronic Technician is $90,210. A criminal history check may be conducted on all new hires as well as employees changing positions including promotions, demotions, details, reassignments and transfers.  Also, prospective employees may be subject to pre-employment drug testing.  New hires will be subject to employment eligibility verification via the federal government's E-verify system.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

One year of experience in the maintenance or repair of mechanical or electronic office equipment, precision machinery, or electronic/electrical systems or in the installation, repair or maintenance of computer equipment or systems (hardware and/or software).

SUBSTITUTIONS:

Training in a vocational-technical school or military school will substitute for the experience on the basis of one year of training for one year of experience.

College training with at least six semester hours per year in electronics or computer science will substitute for the experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for the one year of required experience.

CompTIA A+ Certification will substitute for the one year of required experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

Must possess an appropriate Federal Communications Commission (FCC) radio-telephone license when working with marine and aviation transmitting equipment or with radar.

May be required to have technician certification by the National Association of Business and Educational Radio (NABER).

May be required to possess a valid Louisiana driver's license at the time of appointment.

NOTE:

The maintenance or repair of electronic or electrical systems includes the repair or maintenance of radio or television broadcasting equipment; or electronic equipment such as radios, televisions or VCRs..

NOTE:

Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Function of Work:

To install and repair two-way radio transmitters and receivers, micro-waves, radar, telephones, marine radios, public address (PA) systems, data communication modules and terminals, airport navigational systems, digital signs, closed-circuit televisions (TV), and related electronic and mechanical and equipment.

Level of Work:

Entry.

Supervision Received:

General from an Electronic Technician or Electronic Technician Supervisor.

Supervision Exercised:

None.

Location of Work:

May be used by any state agency.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from Electronic Technician by absence of functional supervisory responsibility and by performing less complex work than an Electronic Technician.Repairs two-way radios (mobile and land based).

Repairs airport navigational aides.

Repairs PA systems, maintains private branch exchange (PBX) telephone and other telephone equipment.

Installs data communication modules and terminals.

Repairs marine radar and marine radios.

Repairs closed-circuit TV cameras and monitors.

Repairs digital sign systems, tower lights, and antennas.

Maintains stand-by electric power plants.

Keeps records on radio equipment.

Maintains sufficient radio parts inventory.

Installs and repairs telephone systems, tower lights, and antennas and maintains stand-by electric power plants.
