Plans and schedules the testing and maintenance of protective relays in a manner that complies with Southwestern's maintenance standards and the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC).

Plans and schedules the testing and maintenance of revenue meters in a manner that complies with Southwestern's maintenance, ANSI, IEEE, and other industry standards. Coordinates with other utility revenue meter personnel to witness and document metering calibration tests to ensure metering systems are in accordance with Southwestern's power sales contracts.

Conducts investigations and troubleshooting of equipment and system failures to determine probable causes. Solves or recommends solutions to electro-mechanical and electronic problems that involve tolerance, component failure, and operating characteristics.

Performs inspection, functional tests, and commissions new protective relay, metering, and related control system installations prior to acceptance for operation. Recommends or makes necessary changes and adjustments to correct deficiencies.

Maintains technical documents and substation drawings necessary to understand the application of and perform tests on all protective relay and meter installations. Maintains complete, up-to-date, and accurate reference files of relay settings, connections, and meter calibrations. Documents test results and revises drawings to reflect wiring changes.

Travel Required
50% or less - Overnight travel for up to 10 days per month may be required.

You must have journeyman-level ability in the duties of a Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanic (Meter and Relay) Craftsman as described in KSA #1.


Your application and resume should demonstrate that you possess the following abilities. You are NOT required to provide a separate narrative written response. Rather, you must describe in your application how your past work experience demonstrates that you possess those described below.
1.Ability to do the work of an Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanic (Meter and Relay) Craftsman without greater than normal supervision (install and commission, or maintain and repair, protective relay equipment and/or polyphase revenue metering equipment associated with power system distribution or transmission systems.)
2.Knowledge of theory and application of mechanical and microprocessor based protective relaying equipment used for the transmission of high voltage electrical energy.
3.Knowledge of theory and application of revenue and interchange metering equipment used for the transmission of high voltage electrical energy.
4.Knowledge of theory and application of electrical and electronic equipment used for transmission of high voltage electrical energy including, but not limited to, potential transformers, current transformers, transducers, control switchboards, power line carrier transmitter/receivers, power line carrier wave traps, line tuning units, and coupling capacitor potential devices.
5.Working knowledge of test instruments and tools used by Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanics, in construction, troubleshooting, and maintenance such as voltmeters, ammeters, phase angle meters, computerized meter test equipment, computerized protective relay test equipment, and hand tools.
6.Reading and interpreting drawings and documentation associated with maintaining, modifying, applying new methods, repairing, and installing protective relay and metering systems.

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY As a mechanic you will increase levels of customer service by performing preventive maintenance and making repairs on equipment within the area of responsibility as needed in the most effective and cost-efficient way possible to avoid down time at the customer location. You will perform check-ins and repairs, and assist other mechanics with general shop and equipment maintenance as directed.
