Summary

This position is located in the Operations Shop at the Engineering Service at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. The Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic is under the general supervision of the Operations Supervisor. The primary responsibility of this position is the operation and maintenance of the METASYS Energy Management System, and Johnson Controls' proprietary software.
Responsibilities

Troubleshoots, repairs, modifies, calibrates, and installs Direct Digital Controls (DDC), and electronic and pneumatic controls.
Keeps abreast of the rapidly changing techniques of HVAC system controls and improvements in equipment thru continuing education, review of engineering periodicals, manufacture's literature, and by attending seminars.
Utilizes Johnson Controls' proprietary software METASYS, including HVACPRO and WINPRO on a laptop computer and operating workstations to configure and program DDCs, and binary inputs/outputs and analog inputs/outputs.
Programs and monitors facility's electronic equipment through the operator's workstation.
Conducts HVAC, lighting, domestic hot water, natural gas and electrical consumption audits using the METASYS Program.
Uses energy surveying equipment (light meters, power factor meters, wattmeter, and anemometers).
Brings up graphic floor plans, system schematics, live trend data, historical information, comprehensive reports, and summaries.
Responsible for the overall maintenance and operation of the METASYS Energy Management System.
Knows the operational sequence of all devices controlled by the System.
Uses HVACPRO and WINPRO on a laptop computer to configure parameters and software features for specific controllers.
Boots the system and prepare programs to interface with controllers.

Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday thru Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Qualifications

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: The employee frequently handles objects weighing 45 pounds, but occasionally carries objects weighing more than 45 pounds for considerable distance.

The incumbent is required to push, pull, reach, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and work in cramped spaces over and under machinery of all types for sustained period of time. The incumbent must use proper lifting and transporting techniques when working with heavy equipment.

Work is performed in mechanical spaces throughout the facility; the incumbent may be called upon to work in patient rooms, intensive care units, laboratories, rooftops, basements, etc. Floors sometimes are uneven, oily, and slippery.

Occasionally, work may be performed in very cold, hot, or unventilated areas. Outside work is performed in all types of weather conditions. Occasionally, the incumbent will climb ladders, and he/she will work from high places.

Work may be performed in possibly infectious and radioactively areas or equipment. Standard safety and inspection control procedures and precautions are required to operate within the work environment. Occasionally, works in areas and on equipment may result in exposure to airborne asbestos fibers.

The incumbent will be trained and required to wear proper protective equipment. All work is performed at VAMC San Francisco and its satellite clinics.
