Lab Engineer will be responsible for the Motor Lab testing, lab machinery, and performance testing. Will create and adjust setup tests, runs the experiments, make the measurements and report the findings to our Motor design team.
Manage and keep all lab equipment operational in order to support the project needs (calibration, maintenance, and prompt available)
Give technical based feedback to our internal partners based on testing and data reduction to make decisions around motor performance. This includes writing testing procedures, reports and summarizing findings based on testing results)
Create and keep updated list of Lab test capabilities
Use proper tools to report problem solving (A3), Concept selection (Pugh Matrix), Decisions taken (Decision Matrix), 6 Sigma Tools (Thought Map, Product Map, Process Map, etc)
Directly run the tests and/or supervise technicians
Provide inputs to project planning when leading projects
Support / lead Technical Design Reviews (TDRs) to ensure technology is delivering per requirements
Reporting project status weekly (Project or Cost Tracking files). Andon system (Help) used to solve problems proactively, facilitate 5 why to capture the learnings and improve the process continuously
Participate in A0-A2 Process for advanced development projects which are run at a X-Platform level
Monitor and report out Key Performance Indicators Lab (Equipments usage, on time tests delivered, etc) and Projects(Cost, Quality, Timing, Component Performance)
Will interact with various engineering platform customers and teams to provide technical guidance and support in the area of motors and controls.
Will also run/support strategic projects.
Will be expected to work independently once trained and up to speed.
Strong data interpretation abilities
Strong Microsoft Excel knowledge/Google sheets (Google tools & excel functions, Plots / Graphs)
Ability to work cross-functionally and globally
Good communication and presentation skills
Previous experience in lab setting preferred
Programming experience is a plus (Labview, PLC, C++)
Motor experience AC, DC, Universal, Perm. Magnet, Inverters for motor control
Machining / Fabrication ability. (Endmill, lathe, Bandsaws, all basic hand tools). A large portion of the role is committed to creating mechanical fixturing and testing setups
Six Sigma trained or certified
Familiar with (International Electrotechnical Commissions) UL/IEC (Underwriters Laboratories Inc.) standard, preferred IEC 60335-1
