Testing Preparation Procedures
Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments if necessary.
Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and make adjustments if necessary.
Ensure patient is comfortable and in safe position for testing and outcomes.
Gather and Analyze Patient Information
Collect, analyze and integrate patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs (Physical/mental limitations, current emotional/ physiological status regarding the testing procedure, pertinent medical/social history), and to determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols.
Complete and verify documentation.
Explain pre-testing, testing, and post-testing procedures to the patient.
Performs Electroencephalogram Procedures
Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.
Run impedance check(s) to verify precise hook up.
Run calibration to ensure proper lining of channels.
If applicable, perform routine bio-cals and photic on study.
Be able to troubleshoot and fix any issues with the recording.
Document all procedures throughout recording.
Informs appropriate personnel of a questionable illness or behavior of the patient.
Continually monitors patient activity to assure accurate recordings and patient safety; annotating patient changes to document and eliminate artifact, cardiac arrhythmias or to document patient behavioral changes.
Performs equipment/supply maintenance, equipment cleaning and minor repairs to assure proper equipment function.
Performs related work to collect additional data, perform quality assurance, submit patient charges and credits and related record keeping.
Service Management and Professional Issues
Comply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control issues.
Perform routine and complex equipment care and maintenance.
Evaluate EEG related equipment and inventory.
Maintain current CPR or BCLS certification.
Demonstrate effective written and spoken communication skills.
Demonstrate appropriate social skills.
Respond to study participants procedural-related inquiries by providing.
Appropriate information.
Demonstrate the ability to analyze complex situations and apply policy.
Comply with EEG testing sponsored board.

Education, Credentials, Licenses:
High School diploma
Specialized Knowledge:
CPR Certified for basic life support.
EEG Registry eligible
Kind and Length of Experience:
One year experience in EEG monitoring or relative healthcare experience.
DESIRABLE
Successful completion of an EEG program associated with a state licensed and/or a nationally accredited educational facility or equivalent experience and document proficiency at all competencies required.
If the technician is registered or certified, they must maintain their registry through the sponsored board. Familiarity with microcomputers and Hospital Information Systems.
