Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is looking for a qualified Electrochemistry Systems Postdoctoral Research Associate to perform laboratory-based research and development in electrochemical science and engineering. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off reporting to the Project Investigator.

Responsibilities Include:

  • You will develop and optimize electrochemical methods and processes for the valorization, separation, and recovery of valuable materials from waste or non-conventional feedstocks.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of electrochemistry principles relevant to hydrometallurgy, extractive solvometallurgy, corrosion, and electrodeposition.

  • Utilize fundamental concepts of chemical science and chemical engineering to optimize electrochemical process conditions and output.

  • Work independently to achieve specific project milestones and deliverables while operating within a large scientific team.

  • Maintain currency in relevant scientific literature and participate in preparing reports, peer-reviewed publications, and proposals.

  • Represent the laboratory though program reviews and technical presentations at conferences.

  • Meet ES&H goals, and demonstrate a strong commitment to safe laboratory practices, and performs all work in an environmentally safe and compliant manner.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, chemistry, or related field having been conferred within the past 5 years, or the PhD requirements must be completed by commencement of the Postdoctoral appointment.

  • Hands-on experience and publications in two or more of the following general electrochemistry-related areas: inorganic redox chemistry, analytical electrochemistry, electrodeposition, electrodialysis, electrochemically-assisted hydrometallurgy or extractive solvometallurgy, corrosion, electrochemical processing of feedstock materials.

  • Engineering skills to design and set up electrochemical systems.

  • Hands-on experience in standard operating principles of 'wet' chemistry and materials processing laboratories.

  • US citizenship.

  • Experience in proposal writing and capture of funding

Job Information:

  • The target pay range for this position is $96,900 annually. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

  • You are required to show a demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working environment.

  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
