This is skilled, diversified, journey-level work of more than average difficulty in the installation, maintenance, repair and replacement of electrical, electronic, or Instrumentation and Control systems and equipment in a large utility operation, including but not limited to motor drives, pressure, level, pH and programmable logic controllers An employee in this class performs assignments requiring the use of standard trade practices in the maintenance and new construction of City facilities.
Work assignments may be accompanied by sketches, blueprints, schematics or diagrams.
Work is subject to inspection while in progress and is checked upon completion.
Work in this class differs from lower level classes in that the employee performs highly skilled work in one or more of the electro-technology skill categories: industrial electricity, Instrumentation and Controls, and electronics.
This job classification is included within the bargaining unit represented by Teamsters Local Union 769 and therefore is subject to the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Teamsters Local Union 769.
NOTE: The duties of this position will include all of those duties set forth in the official job description.

Have successfully graduated from an accredited high school or G.E.D.
certificate, or trade school, preferably supplemented with trade courses in industrial electricity, electronics or instrumentation.
Possess a minimum five (5) years of experience in industrial electricity, electronics, and/or instrumentation.
Additional qualifying work experience may be substituted for up to two years of the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Must possess a valid Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Some positions may require possession of a valid Broward County Journeyman's Electrician License or equivalent.
THE EXAMINATION AND HOW TO APPLY: Depending on the number of applicants and the quality of their education and experience, the examination may consist of one or more of the following tests:
Evaluation of Training and Experience, Oral Interview, Written Examination, or other assessment method.
Applicants must attain a minimum score of 70 in each part of the examination in order to qualify.
All successful applicants may be required to take a medical examination and/or pass a drug screening prior to appointment.

An eligible veteran who enters an open-competitive examination shall receive preference points added to the total passing score earned in the examination as provided for in the Florida Statutes.
To obtain veteran's preference, candidates MUST submit a copy of separation papers and the City of Fort Lauderdale's veteran's preference claim form ( J204 ) at time of application.

Located at Fort-Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, the Fort Lauderdale facility is winner of several FAA Diamond Awards. The 133,552 sq ft facility's 180 dedicated employees are equipped to perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, modifications, including interior modifications, avionics installations, and Aircraft on Ground (AOG) support for Bombardier Learjet, Challenger and Global aircraft. The Service Center has received certifications from FAA, EASA, Argentina, Aruba, Bermuda, Brazil, Cayman Islands, Chile, Mexico and Venezuela. Bombardier Business Aircraft's Fort Lauderdale Service Center has an exciting internship opportunity available for an Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Technician Intern. This opportunity is intended to provide future A&P Technicians with practical experience as they prepare for a career in the exciting and rewarding industry of aviation. In your role, you will: * Adhere to Bombardier General Work Requirements for factory, shop and/or hangar positions * Comply with environmental health / safety policies and procedures. Participate in 5-S activities. * Perform all assigned tasks in a safe and timely manner * Troubleshoot, repair, inspect and perform maintenance on Customer aircraft * Perform and document work performed per appropriate manuals and regulations as required * Operate ground support equipment as required * Assist with mechanical / electrical removals and installations * Perform other duties as assigned * Assist other maintenance disciplines As our ideal candidate, * You are currently enrolled in a Technical School/Program working towards a certification in the Aviation Maintenance Field * You have completed 50% of your school's curriculum * You have exemplary attendance as well as grade point average * You will typically have 0-2 years of aircraft maintenance work experience or substantiated equivalent experience * You have the ability to work a flexible schedule (20-40 hours per week) which may include nights and weekends. Note: Hours of the internship will vary due to the work load and the student's schedule (i.e. may work more hours in the summer, then less when the student goes back to school). * You have the ability to effectively communicate in both written and verbal form on individual and/or aircraft status * You have basic PC skills * You own a basic set of hand tools with the ability to demonstrate inventory and control of tools * You must obtain appropriate Ground Support Equipment Qualifications as required * You must be able to work in seasonal/inclement weather outside * You have the ability to obtain a Security Identification Display Area badge (SIDA) * You currently live/reside within a reasonable commutable distance of the service center You must provide a teacher's recommendation (school contact will provide form) Please note: Relocation or housing assistance is not available for this position.
