Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the electrician/maintenance will perform a variety of skilled and technical duties related to the installation, repair and maintenance of sophisticated electronics equipment and electrical systems.

This position is assigned to the Visalia campus.  The working hours are 6:00am - 2:30pm, Monday-Friday, and Initial placement is at $65,499.

Job duties of the Electrician/Maintenance Technician:

  • Perform a variety of skilled and technical duties related to the installation, repair and maintenance of sophisticated electronics equipment and electrical systems.

  • Install, program, maintain and repair computer systems including the energy computer system.

  • Maintain and repair street, tennis court, parking lot and athletic field lights, fire signal and clock systems and electrical appliances.

  • Install, maintain and repair electric motors, lighting circuits, electrical control equipment, transformers, duct systems and other types of lighting and power equipment.

  • Repair and maintain the theatre dimmer system and marquee.

  • Inspect building wiring and electrical fixtures; replace old and unsafe conduits, wiring, switches and receptacles; connect power lines to existing high voltage lines.

  • Perform skilled electronic electrical work from blueprints, sketches or general instructions; prepare drawings and sketches of projects.

  • Operate a variety of specialized hand power tools and testing and measuring devises utilized in electronic repair and maintenance.

  • Prepare and maintain files, records and reports related to the electronic and electrical needs and operations.

  • Train and provide work direction to others; assist in other trade areas as necessary.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience):

Any combination equivalent to:

  • College level course work in electronics

AND

  • Three years of skilled electrician experience.

Licenses and Other Requirements:

  • Valid California driver's license.

  • An incumbent must be insurable at the "standard rate" by the employer's insurance carrier at all times while employed in this classification by the College of the Sequoias.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Journeyman license in the State of California.

  • Five years of skilled electrician experience.

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Methods, equipment and materials used in the maintenance and repair of electronic equipment.

  • Principles and practices of providing work direction to others.

  • Technical aspects of field of specialty.

  • Theory of operation for computers and peripheral equipment.

  • Record-keeping techniques.

  • Oral and written communication skills.

Ability to:

  • Perform skilled work in the repair, maintenance and installation of a wide variety of sophisticated electronic equipment.

  • Analyze and interpret equipment specifications.

  • Operate electronic measuring instruments and test equipment.

  • Operate hand and power tools in a safe and correct manner.

  • Maintain inventory and order supplies and equipment.

  • Maintain records and prepare reports.

  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.

  • Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.

  • Meet schedules and time lines.

  • Work from blueprints, shop drawings and sketches.

  • Work independently with little direction.

  • Plan and organize work.

  • Train and provide work direction to others.

  • Use service manuals and schematic diagrams to repair assigned electronics equipment.

Working Conditions:

Environment

  • Indoor and outdoor environment; subject to driving to conduct work.

Physical Abilities

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate specialized electronic testing equipment and hand and power tools.

  • Ability to hear and speak to communicate with students/employees/public.

  • Ability to see to read documents, observe work and distinguish colors.

  • Ability to sit and stand for extended period of time.

  • Ability to reach in all directions, i.e. overhead, above the shoulders, horizontally

  • Ability to bend, kneel or crouch.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Hazards

  • Exposure to electrical power supply and high voltage.
