Building Systems Maintenance has three levels of electricians, and the level is determined by a candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities, and applicable licensure.

Electrician II, III, and IV: Install, alter, add, maintain, troubleshoot, and/or repair of electrical systems, lighting controls, access control systems, building security systems, fire alarm systems, and building automation controls systems. Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using basic features of testing devices, interpret and use schematics and blueprint drawings to complete the installation and troubleshooting of electrical conduit systems, wiring, and device termination, and ensure compliance with regulations.

Electrician III: In addition to the duties and responsibilities above, a level III will confirm scope, schedule, and budget requirements of work assignments and coordinate changes, and communicate and coordinate with outside vendors and manufacturers relative to electrical equipment and systems.

Electrician IV: In addition to the duties and responsibilities above, a level IV will provide as-built documentation at the completion of projects, coordinate work and schedules with supervisors, staff, contractors, building occupants, project managers, and engineers, train, mentor, and verify work of other staff, students, temp, and/or on-call personnel, and assist with project development, employee training, and safety coordination.

All levels will be assigned to a rotating on-call schedule and urgent situations occasionally require after-hours work.
