JOB OVERVIEW - Responsibilities include communicating with the Maintenance Management Team as electrical maintenance/construction at Montana State Prison, plans all work assigned to this position to maintain the best possible electrical utility, responsible for the supervision and training of an inmate work force. This position:

• Installs and maintains wiring, control, and lighting systems.

• Reads blueprints or technical diagrams.

• Connects wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.

• Identifies electrical problems using a variety of testing devices.

• Installs and connects power supplies to and between machines and equipment by following manuals, schematics, and blueprints.

• Tests malfunctioning equipment and repair or replace faulty wires, cables, or electronic components.

• Inspects electrical components, such as transformers, connections, and equipment, to identify hazards, defects, adjustments, repairs, and to ensure compliance with codes.

• Performs electrician work unsupervised.

• Lays out work for electric jobs.

• May supervise apprentice electrician; ratio of apprenticeship supervision is no more than one apprentice electrician to one journeyman electrician.

• Supervises inmate workers.

QUALIFICATIONS - Meet the licensed electrician requirements listed under 37-68-301, MCA

Completion of an approved inside wireman apprenticeship program in the electrical trade or completion of an appropriate training program conducted by a bona fide union or trade association. Third party verification of (8,000) hours of legally obtained practical experience in installing, and repairing of electrical apparatus and equipment for light, heat, and power in residential construction consisting of less than five living units in a single structure. Or;

Worked in the electrical maintenance field for at least (20,000) hours, accompanied by written certification by the applicant's employer that the applicant has attained at least (20,000) hours in the electrical maintenance field while working for the employer. A minimum of (8,000) of these hours must be practical experience. [37-68-305, MCA]
