LOCATION OF POSITION
This position is with the Maryland Department of General Services,Facilities Operations and Maintenance Division, located at 301 W. PrestonStreet, Baltimore, MD 21201.
Main Purpose of Job
This position performs electrical work, to include functions such as preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, repair, installation, and rebuilding and upgrading of equipment, buildings, and facilities of Baltimore Public Buildings and Grounds.
The employee selected for this position will be designated as a Level II employee and will be required to attend and successfully complete the appropriate asbestos safety and health training as required by Executive Order 01.01.1987.22.
This is an emergency essential classification subject to emergency release procedures. Employees in this classification must be willing and available for duty at such hours, day or night, and are required to remain or report for duty at such hours as needed to maintain the continuous operation of this agency.
Duties for this positioninclude, but are not limited to:
Performs routinepreventive maintenance on electrical systems, equipment, and machinery, such asinspecting controls, switches, meters, fuses, wires, motors, generators, andtransformers by tightening screws, wires, and contacts. Tests electricalsystems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, andfixtures using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopesto ensure compatibility and safety of system.
Diagnosesmalfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment andhand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.Inspects electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards,defects, the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance withcodes.
Prepares sketches orfollows blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment and toensure conformance to building and safety codes. Inspects and makes minorrepairs to switch gear and transformers leading into the facilitiessub-station.
Examines and completeswork orders from E-Maintenance work order system. Provides preliminary sketchesand cost estimates for materials and services.
Completes work orders,maintenance and repair logs, and other reports in order to track and documentwork performed and to record materials and supplies used. Takes inventory ofelectrical materials, supplies, parts, and tools.
Makes recommendations tobuilding tenants and management on technical and complex electrical problems.Participates in electrical installation inspections with management orengineers as the agency's on-site representative. Reviews blueprints, wiringdiagrams, and schematics to determine the location of wiring, electricaldevices, and equipment to ensure compliance with code and safety regulations.
Education: Completion of the eighth grade.
Experience: Four years of experience installing, repairing, testing and maintaining electrical systems, equipment, fixtures and control devices at commercial or residential buildings or other facilities.
1.Candidates may substitute additional experience as described on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2.Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited vocational or technical high school or other vocational or technical school with a concentration in electricity for three years of the required experience.
3.Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience as a non-commissioned officer in construction electrician classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in the installation and repair of electrical systems, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Strong preference will begiven to applicants that possess the following preferred qualifications.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
1.Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in 24-hours a day and may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.
2.Employees in this classification who are designated as Level I or Level II employees shall attend and successfully complete the appropriate asbestos safety and health training as required by Executive Order 01.01.1987.22.

If you are scheduled to completean educational or licensing requirement within six months of the examination,you may participate in the examination process. Permanent State employees mayalso complete necessary experience requirements within six months of the dateof an examination. Credit is given for relevant part-time, temporary orvolunteer experience based on the number of hours worked per week.
