  • Electrical Shop Pay Grade: 806 Duty Days: 244 Salary: $51,728 - 62,308 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Position Purpose Performs electrical construction, installation, repair, service, alteration, and maintenance tasks on a variety of electrical systems and equipment.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Lays out, assembles, installs, tests, maintains, services, and repairs such items as conduits, meters, panels, control boards, lights, fans, heaters, bell systems, field lighting systems, clock systems, and wall, floor, and ceiling receptacles, and underground wiring. Bends, threads, and installs conduit for repairs and new installations. Determines routing of conduit and wire, and determines location and methods of installing panels, transformer switches, plugs, and junction boxes.

    Determines need for repairs or replacements and the most cost efficient and safest method of restoring interrupted service. Computes wire size, power, and load limit requirements using charts and handbooks considering amperage load and distance to power supply. Climb ladders and poles to install or repair lamps.

    Performs mechanical operations necessary to dismantle, disassemble, repair, reassemble, and install electrical units. Uses precision measuring devices and instruments to check or test circuits for overload and circuit amplitude. Safety Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.

    Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor. Supervisory Responsibilities None.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques. Knowledge of plumbing codes. Knowledge of District policies, procedures, and regulations.

    Knowledge of proper use of tools of the trade. Knowledge of NFPA Fire and Life Safety Codes, Uniform Building Codes, Protection Agency (EPA) regulations, and Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA) codes. Skill in interpersonal relationships, including using tact, patience, and courtesy.

    Skill in coordinating, planning, organizing, leading, and completing projects. Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, service manuals, wiring diagram schematics, and other written material relating to electrical installation and repairs. Ability to perform mathematical calculations.

    Ability to diagnose and resolve problems. Ability to analyze malfunctions of electrical equipment. Ability to operate electronic testing equipment such as meters.

    Ability to work effectively at heights of 50 feet or more on ladders, scaffolds, or poles, and work under buildings and in confined spaces. Ability to work independently without supervision or with a helper depending on workload demands. Ability to use software to access databases, email, and do word processing.

    Ability to organize and coordinate work. Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written forms. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.

    Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. Travel Requirements Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. Physical & Mental Demands, Work Hazards Tools/Equipment Used:

    Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; electrical measuring and testing equipment; hand tools; power tools; hoist; light truck or van. Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting; works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; occasional crouching/crawling; frequent driving.

    Lifting: Constantly exerts 10 to 20 pounds of force to move objects in a kitchen and/or truck or van; frequently exerts 25 to 50 pounds of force; occasionally exerts 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally. Environment: Works outside and inside, inside truck/van and inside kitchens; works on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures; works around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; exposure to heat from appliances and possible exposure to caustic chemicals; frequent reaching and feeling while in confined spaces and around objects, which reduce or prevent visibility of what is being touched; occasionally works at heights up to 50' above ground; may require occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel. Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.

    Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions. Minimum Required Qualifications Education: (See approved combinations of Education & Experience below) Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency required; Completion of courses in electrical theory and electrical construction code from an accredited college or trade school preferred.

    Certification/License: Clear and valid Texas Driver's License required; Insurable by the District's insurance carrier required; Passed the Texas Journeyman Electrician Exam required; Valid Texas State Journeyman Electrician License required; Certificate from an accredited trade school or college preferred. Experience: (See approved combinations of Education & Experience below) 5-7 years' experience required; Approved combinations Experience HS/GED/TxCHSE without trade school certificate 7 years as Journeyman HS/GED/TxCHSE with trade school certificate5 years as Journeyman Additional Requirements:

    Employees must provide necessary personal tools to perform assigned duties. The FWISD is prohibited from replacing stolen or broken personal property. INSURABILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL DRIVERS Must be at least 21 years old.

    NO positive drug or alcohol tests including pre-employment, random, post-accident or reasonable suspicion. Driving and accident record: Valid Texas Department of Public Safety Driver Record Check Type 3A-Certified list of all crashes and violations http://dps.texas.gov/DriverLicense/driverrecords.htm NO more than 2 violations during previous 36 months including: moving traffic violations (including no more than 1 preventable accident); failure to provide proof of valid driver's license or proof of insurance; equipment violations.

    NO Driving Under the Influence (DUI) for drug or alcohol. NO leaving scene of an accident (bodily injury or physical damage). NO vehicular assault, manslaughter, or homicide. NO operating a vehicle with suspended or revoked driver's license.

    NO reckless driving, speed contests, drag racing, or highway racing. NO use of a vehicle in commission of a felony. NO operating a vehicle without owner's permission (unauthorized use or grand theft). NO permitting an unlicensed person to drive.

    NO speeding more than 20 mph over the posted speed limit. NO history of a conviction in a commercial or personal motor vehicle. Additional restrictions may apply if directed by FWISD's Fleet Insurance Carrier.
