The North Carolina Department of Administration is seeking applicants for an Electrician II for our Facility Management division. The primary mission of Facility Management is to provide a safe and healthful work environment for employees and the public in a cost effective and energy efficient manner. This mission is accomplished by performing routine, preventive, and emergency maintenance to state facilities owned by and allocated to the Department of Administration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Installing, maintaining, altering, and repairing wiring, electrical devices, machinery, and equipment.

  • Measuring, cutting, threading, bending, assembling, and installing conduit; pulling wire through conduit, does necessary splicing and installing, and connecting equipment to wiring systems.

Division/ Department Overview

The Department of Administration serves as the business manager for North Carolina state government and provides leadership to state government agencies for the effective, efficient, economical and equitable delivery of services to the public. The department also provides assistance and services to several advocacy programs that serve diverse segments of the state's population that have traditionally been underserved. The agency's mission directs departmental efforts to: acquire, develop and maintain properties and facilities; create and operate an efficient system to purchase and dispose of goods and services to meet the needs of government agencies; provide excellent operational services to state employees; achieve fair and equitable opportunities and representation for various segments of the population that have special needs; and to provide administrative support to independent state government agencies.

  • Demonstrated work experience performing electrical construction and repairing electrical equipment.

  • Considerable knowledge of the standard practices and methods of the electrical trade as well as skill in the use and care of tools of the trade.

ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS:

  • The position requires standing for long periods of time and performing manual labor.

  • The individual hired for this position must be capable of strenuous lifting, crawling and working at heights up to sixty-five feet or more as well as working in confined spaces such as steam tunnels and manholes.

  • The position may require exposure to extreme environmental conditions.

  • The position may require the use of a respirator and other personal protective equipment medical certification is required to verify the individuals' ability to wear and use a respirator. This is a condition of employment.

  • The position requires the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/ or in excess of 20 pounds of force frequently and/ or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • The position may require working in close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, manholes, small enclosed rooms and other confined areas.

  • The individual hired for this position must be familiar with building, life and safety codes.

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to apply knowledge of the National Electrical code.

  • Experience in the installation of transformers.

  • Ability to locate and diagnose trouble occurring in buzzers, clocks, thermostats, shop equipment and other electrical devices/systems, and perform any necessary repairs needed.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid NC Driver's License with acceptable driving record. Out of State Applicants must have valid Driver's License or acquire NC Driver's License within 60 days of hire. Candidate must present proof of a valid NC Driver's License and proof of an acceptable driving record.

  • Certificate of Completion Asbestos Operation Maintenance and Removal Training.

  • Certificate of Completion Entry Permit Confined Space Training.

  • Upper Pulmonary Health Physical.

SPECIAL NOTE: Employee is required to wear a uniform, use safety equipment and follow safety regulations which are provided by the state. Candidate must present proof of a valid NC Driver's License and proof of an acceptable driving record.

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in the construction or repair of secondary electrical systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
