The position of Electrician II reports to the Maintenance/Construction Technician IV. Applicants for this position should have prior skill in maintenance and repair of facilities involving multiple, complex and/or highly skilled trade specialties. In addition, they perform a variety of tasks at or near the journey level in other trade areas, at least one of which is significantly different from their primary trade. The job requirements for this position include:

  • Performing journey level functions and is responsible for completing work that includes the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, fixtures and plumbing.

  • Completing work assignments received from a supervisor in accordance with accepted trade practices.

  • Working independently while performing assigned tasks but referring very technical or unusual working problems to a supervisor for consideration.

  • Using and maintaining of electrical tools.

  • Locating and correcting defects in electrical systems and equipment.

  • Reading and working from blueprints and sketches.

  • Following both oral and written instructions.

  • Supervising offender workers engaged in semiskilled, unskilled or skilled maintenance assignments.

  • Completing work orders and success in keeping equipment in proper working condition, which will be evaluated by the supervisor.

  • Performing other duties as required.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

  • Working knowledge of the design of electrical wiring and a working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of building electrical systems.

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in the construction or repair of secondary electrical systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Based on the nature of work performed, may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.
