The Opportunity

This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL location in the GES Global Engineering Services division.

This an overnight opportunity. You will have work a rotating 12-hour night shift, 4 days on and 4 days off.

You'll install new equipment, conduit, wiring and connection boxes per standards. Determines the parts required for proper installation and obtains them. The electrician will perform troubleshooting and repair of equipment with voltage ratings up to and including 600 volts. You'll perform general troubleshooting of indoor/ outdoor lighting circuits. Replaces lighting ballasts, motion sensors, photo eyes and switches.Complete routine PM activities; VFDs, Soft Starts, Monthly Emergency Lighting Inverter/ UPS Battery PMs. Understand building electrical distribution.

The electrician will also perform routine switching on molded case circuit breakers and metal enclosed switchgear and motor control centers with voltage ratings up to and including 600 volts.

What You'll Work On

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Abbott Electrical Standards, NEC, and GMP requirements.

  • Ability to perform basic electrical construction. Use of pipe bending and threading tools, hand power tools and hand tools.

  • Ability to perform the installation, testing and troubleshooting of electric conductors, transformers, circuit breakers and Motor Control Centers, building wiring systems pertaining to power and lighting systems, reading and understanding of electrical constructions and electrical control drawings, written and verbal procedures, the use test equipment such digital multimeter, insulation resistance meters/ Meggers, circuit tracers, ampprobes, common electrical tools both handheld powered and mechanical.

  • Have a good working knowledge of the operation of lighting inverters, VFDs, Motor Soft Start equipment, along with knowledge and understanding of HVAC controls.

  • Must know basic CMMS(Computerized Maintenance Management System) functions and how to use various queries pertaining to maintenance activities such as ordering parts and logging work notes.

  • Failures to check, maintain, and/or operate systems according to quality assurance specifications would jeopardize product integrity and place Abbott in noncompliance with government agencies, including EPA FDA.

  • Errors in shutting down equipment or opening switches inappropriately could result in electrical equipment shutdown and resultant product losses in hundreds of thousands of dollars.

  • Accidentally energizing electrical/mechanical systems and/or equipment could have life or death implications.

  • Failure to schedule maintenance work with Production Management could have an adverse impact on customers' operations/production.

  • Failure to adhere to operating instructions and/or safety policies could result in bodily injury and/or fatalities, property losses through fires, explosions, and chemical releases to self and others.

  • Errors in shutting down bio exhaust and clean room facilities, for example, could cause system shutdowns which would create immediate hazards to individuals.

  • Closing valves inappropriately could result in production and/or facility equipment shutdown and result in product losses in hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED

  • 3-5 years Commercial/Industrial Electrical experience.

  • Qualified to work at up to 600v.

  • Completed an accredited electrical apprenticeship or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical discipline.

The base pay for this position is $22.00 - $44.00 per hour. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
