General Services Facilities Maintenance Division is responsible for the repair and maintenance of over 250 city government facilities including: City Hall, Public Safety Building (Jail), Norfolk Consolidated Courts Complex, entertainment venues such as the Scope Arena, Chrysler Hall, Attucks Theater, the Virginia Zoo; a cruise terminal, all police and fire stations, recreation centers; pools and numerous city office buildings. The Division is staffed with 98 employees responsible for carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, HVAC, carpentry, elevators, roofing, moves and relocations of city employees, finance, and administrative functions.

The Electrician I position is responsible for providing assistance to journeyman electricians as required. This may include assisting journeymen electricians by pulling wire, installing conduit, changing ballasts and installing wiring devices.

Essential Functions

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

• Assist Electrician II with electrical work and projects

• Pull wire and data/communication cable

• Install conduit

• Replace light bulbs, as needed, in City buildings, parking lots, and park areas

• Change ballasts in light fixtures

• Replace wall switches, receptacles, and light fixtures • Install and/or replace flags and banners throughout the City

• Maintain flagpoles and halyards

• Uses work order management application (Facility Dude) to update assigned work orders with notes, labor hours, and materials used.

• Follow strict tool and inventory control procedures

Education/Experience

Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.

Required:

• Six months as an electrician's assistant.

Preferred:

• One year of experience as an electrician's assistant.

Additional Information & Requirements

• Valid Driver's License required. A DMV transcript dated within the past 30 days will be required if selected for hire.

• This position is designated as Essential and is required to report to work during City closures due to inclement weather and other emergencies.

Work Schedule:

• Monday - Friday, 7:00AM - 3:30PM

Signing Bonus: This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus.
