Helix Electric has need for a dynamic State Certified Journeyman Electrician. The successful electrician will be part of a production driven team, performing electrical installations and troubleshooting.

  • Responsible for assembly, installation, maintenance and testing of electrical equipment and wiring systems in commercial settings.

  • Prepares work area for installation of equipment.

  • Installs electrical components.

  • Connects wiring and equipment as per code and job specification.

  • Operates equipment only if trained and certified to operate. (Note: Powder activated tools, and JLG lifts and other operations that may require certification and training before operating).

  • Sets up and operates tools such as hydraulic benders, power threaders, power pullers and cable vacuum systems.

  • Be able to read blueprints and electrical drawings and install as specified.

  • Verify dimensions, alignments and clearances per drawings or plans.

  • Secure and lock up equipment after use.

  • State Journeyman Electrician Certification is a requirement in states where required or considered highly desirable in states without this requirement

  • A proven track record of delivering safe projects on schedule and within budget.

  • Excellent working knowledge of the Building Codes.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.


  • Job requires working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain, snow.

  • Wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, and gloves always), respirator when required.

  • Able to work 8-10 hours per day, 40 hours per week, overtime, and night shifts as required.

  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, including crawling, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, sitting, reaching, able to routinely lift heavy objects in excess of 50 pounds and pushing and pulling of objects is required.

  • Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.

  • Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job.

With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.</p><p>We have an opportunity for an Electrician who supports Facilities Management's goal of providing consistent, cost effective, and reliable maintenance and service to the University facilities. The incumbent is responsible for responding to renovation projects and support to maintenance work orders within the Health System Complex. Electricians provide labor and technical knowledge for installation and maintenance of building components and mechanical systems while providing a safe environment. Electricians perform work of moderate difficulty which involves repairing, installing, connecting, and maintaining electrical systems and equipment in buildings.</p><p>Duties Include:</p><ul><li><p>Install and maintain electrical equipment, components and lighting fixtures with proper wiring and material.</p></li><li><p>Perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and wiring for Academic and Health System electrical systems.</p></li><li><p>Specify, estimate, and install equipment, wiring, and systems in accordance with applicable standards and requirements.</p></li><li><p>Lay out and locate areas to cut or drill holes and openings for installation of sleeve or inserts for passage and support for pipe, fittings, and wire.</p></li><li><p>Respond to emergency requests.</p></li><li><p>Inform customers of job status, reasons for and duration of expected delays, as well as refer customers to the supervisor when appropriate.</p></li><li><p>Perform all work in accordance with safety rules and procedures, such as OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations, the National Electrical Code, and The Joint Commission.</p></li><li><p>Assist other trades and become familiar with various equipment and sequence of operation.</p></li><li><p>Perform miscellaneous duties such as snow and ice removal and special events setups, as assigned by the supervisor.</p></li><li><p>In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.</p></li></ul><p>Qualifications:</p><p>Education: High school diploma or equivalent</p><p>Experience: Four years of experience in the electrical field. Experience in a hospital setting preferred.</p><p>Licensure: Journeyman or higher electrical license, as well as a valid driver's license.</p><p>For this position, the selected candidate will need to complete the necessary background checks and health screen.</p><p>Compensation:</p><p>The anticipated hiring range for this position is $22.50 - $27.00 per hour ($46,800 - $56,160 per year).
