What You'll Do:

  • Act as lead worker (e.g., provides work direction and training) over lower-level electricians and/or crew and/or inmates

engaged in installation, maintenance and repair of electrical wiring systems, fixtures, controls and equipment

  • Installs, tests, troubleshoots, maintains and repairs electrical wiring systems, fixtures, controls and equipment (e.g.,

motors, appliances, fans, transformers, heating and cooling equipment, fire and other alarm/security systems, elevators

and switches)

  • Use of hand & power tools

  • Determines and completes material cost estimates

  • Orders, procures and/or purchases supplies and materials from vendors and/or contractors

  • Reads blueprints and/or schematic diagrams

  • Maintains tool count of tools used by inmates (e.g., completes tool control forms daily, maintains strict inventory of tools)

  • Performs other maintenance and/or miscellaneous duties (e.g., performs semi-skilled carpentry, painting, plumbing and/

or water treatment)

  • Maintains inventory of electrical supplies

  • Ensures compliance with security regulations

  • Completes reports, participates in detection and confiscation of contraband

  • Operates snow and ice removal and grass cutting equipment

  • Operates heavy equipment (e.g., backhoe, trencher, forklift)

  • Serves on institutional committees

  • Attends training, seminars and/or meetings as required

18 mos. trg. or 18 mos. verifiable exp. in electrical work under supervision of experienced electrician; formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication & division & in reading & writing common English vocabulary.

  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
