Electrician 1St Class A - Production

To install maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and test all electrical and electronic apparatus including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and associated equipment at BED's Generating facilities.

Pay Grade 11: $26.58 - $43.57 Hourly

Please Note: BED is looking to hire one Electrician 1st Class A. Applications for both Electrician 1st Class A Lead Worker - Production and Electrician 1st Class A - Production will be considered to fill this opening.

• Install, repair, and program all electrical equipment at the plant including high voltage components of the electrostatic precipitator, transformer rectifiers, control adjustments, DC components, supply voltage, breakers, control circuits and electronics, rappers, controls, hopper heaters, level probes and grounds and data and voice communication equipment.

• Maintain, modify, and program the programmable logic controllers (PLCs) for the motor control systems and burner management.

• Maintains and installs new wiring of any BED generating facility control system, including control panels, CRT, and process computers, etc.

• Install, repair and/or maintain electrical and electronic equipment associated with the high-pressure boiler, turbine, generator, fuel handling, lighting, fire alarm, security, and communications at BED's generating facilities.

• Perform electrical maintenance on security/surveillance system including closed circuit TV system.

• Performs maintenance on all BED generating facility station heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems.

• Operate and maintain various turbines (i.e., jet engines, gas expander turbines, hydro turbines, etc.).

• Perform the Gas Turbine (GT) on call responsibility on a rotating basis by responding to after hour callouts to qualify the GT to participate in the ISO-New England Forward Reserve Market ("FRM").

• Maintain analog boiler control system.

• Performing switching and grounding of 13.8 KV electrical equipment within McNeil Generation as required.

• Perform manual and remote operation of 35KV equipment at McNeil Generating Station.

• Install, repair and/or maintain electrical and electronic equipment associated with the high-pressure boiler, turbine, generator, fuel handling, lighting, fire alarm, security, and communications.

• Maintain and modify electrical distribution systems for the production facilities including voltages of 13,800 VAC, 4160 VAC, 480 VAC, 220 VAC, 110 VAC, 125 VDC and lower.

• Perform electrical testing such as meggaring, Hipot testing and safety testing on electric tools, ground faults, emergency lighting, uninterruptable power supply and 125 VDC batteries.

• Perform electrical maintenance on station trucks and loaders.

• Contact vendor on equipment related problems.

• Assist Technicians with maintenance and modifications to components of plant instrumentation.

• Perform electrical preventative maintenance checks and maintain equipment records and drawings.

Non-Essential Functions:

• Operate heavy equipment including forklift, lift platform and small bucket truck.

• Unload railcars as needed.

• Clean assigned areas as directed.

• Perform other duties as required.

• Satisfactory completion of a recognized apprentice electrician's program required.

• Must possess a State of Vermont Journeyman Electricians license.

• Must have experience with electronics and programmable logic controllers.

• Required to possess a valid State of Vermont driver's license.

• Must have the ability to interact harmoniously with co-workers.

• Must be in good physical condition.

• Ability to adhere to safety procedures and guidelines, work in confined spaces, work around energized high voltage equipment, and wear appropriate safety equipment as required.

• Must be able to read and understand engineering drawings, electrical schematic diagrams, and wire circuit drawings.

• Basic knowledge of computers and PC based applications.

• Regular attendance is necessary and is essential to meeting the expectations of the job functions.

• Ability to understand and comply with City standards, safety rules and personnel policies.

• Ability to work overtime as needed consistent with the provisions of the BED/IBEW Collective Bargaining Agreement.
