Job Description:

The ADM Cogeneration plant is seeking an experienced Electrical/Instrumentation Maintenance Technician to be involved in the day-to-day instrument and electrical operational activities of the Cogeneration Plant in Decatur, IL. The plant provides steam and electricity to various production processes on the Decatur Complex.

Responsibilities:

  • Recommend changes, modifications or up-grades of equipment to improve operations and reliability.

  • Read and understand equipment electrical and mechanical drawings and documentation

  • Written and Oral communications between operations, engineering and maintenance

  • Proactively participate in plant safety and quality programs.

  • Assist in developing & complying with safety, environmental, quality and production procedures / policies.

  • Install, maintain and repair electrical components such as rotating electrical equipment, variable frequency drives, motor controls, switchgear, and battery systems as required.

  • Working knowledge and understanding of standard electrical work practices and guidelines to include those outlined by such organizations as the National Fire Protection Agency (NEC) and the IEEE to insure a quality as well as maintain code compliant CoGen electrical systems.

  • Perform as a team member while supporting the planned, preventative, and/or predictive maintenance and project activities that support the electrical and process control systems of the plant

  • Perform as a team member or independently to trouble-shoot, diagnose, electrical power and control equipment. Responsibilities may also include process control component repair solutions.

Required Experience and Skills:

The Electrical/Instrumentation Maintenance Technician position requires at least two years of experience in an industrial setting. The candidate must have excellent time management and organization skills. Make decisions with limited experience/knowledge to plan and accomplish goals. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Strong mechanical skills, working knowledge of manual and powered tools, trouble shooting and the ability to plan procedures for completing a task. The candidate shall possess good leadership skills, able to work under time constraints, adaptable, have a high attention to detail and quality, and the desire to learn. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications is preferred. A successful Electrical Technician shall possess a strong work ethic.

  • Technical aptitude in plant electrical systems, including motor controls, and voltage levels (24 VDC to480AC).

  • Experience and knowledge using electrical test equipment including Voltmeter, Trex ,475 Heart communicator and Process Meter.

  • Experience/knowledge of troubleshooting, repairing or replacing equipment and instruments

  • Experience/knowledge of AD/DC circuit theory.

  • Demonstrated participation in plant safety programs

  • Experience/knowledge process sensors / transmitters.

  • Experience/knowledge of electrical safety devices (breakers, fuses, etc.).

  • Prompt and consistent self-starter with ability to manage deadlines while juggling multiple tasks.

  • Excellent communication skills - both oral and detailed written are needed to be effective in this position.

  • Strong interpersonal skills are necessary to effectively interact with multiple employees, management personnel, and other stakeholders. Interpersonal skills employed include handling conflict; explaining problems and potential corrective actions for processes in a fair, honest, and direct way.

  • The candidate must be able to utilize independent judgment to solve problems, have excellent organizational skills, and strive for continuous improvement.

  • Ability and willingness to travel as required for training.

  • Basic computer knowledge.

  • Knowledge of production plant equipment and their interaction with process controls & instrumentation.

  • Familiarity with various electrical classifications including Class I Division I, Class II Division 1 & II.

Job Requirements:

  • Exhibit regular and prompt attendance and maintain attendance record in accordance with company policy

  • Experience in manufacturing, production and/or similar military environment (preferred)

  • Must be 18 years or older

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship

  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate in English (verbal/written)

  • High School diploma or equivalent (preferred)

On-The-Job Training Requirements:

  • New colleagues will need to undergo on-the-job training to acquire skills and certifications, which will be assessed according to established standards

  • Complete ADM safety, food safety, quality, and environmental training

  • Participate in company planner operations training

  • Equipment training may include but not limited to JLP, Forklift, Non-DOT Truck, Reach Lift, Lock Out/Tag Out, etc.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to move about or to a work site by ascending/descending stairs, bending, kneeling and prolonged periods of standing and sitting, stooping, bending, kneeling, or squatting frequently

  • Ability to operate equipment or machinery that may be located at different heights; may require work on ladders, scaffolding or other work at heights or in confined spaces

  • Ability to lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds on a frequent basis, up to 55 pounds on an occasional basis and up to 50 pounds overhead

  • Requires ability and willingness to wear respirators

  • Ability to walk up to two (2) miles during the course of a workday over uneven ground surfaces, and/or walking over Railroad tracks.

ADM requires the successful completion of a background check and medical clearance.
