Specific Job Responsibilities

Electrical or Computer Engineer to join a team that is designing and developing advanced components, subsystems, and systems for national defense programs. This engineering team employs state-of-the-art technologies, including sophisticated software tools for design, analysis, modeling, and simulation.

Responsibilities for electrical engineers range from conceptual design, detailed hardware design (a combination of analog, digital, embedded firmware, schematic capture, board layout), detailed software design (instrument drivers, system integration, database design/interface, report generation, related software quality assurance documentation), analysis, overseeing fabrication of hardware, defining and executing qualification/testing plans, field support, as well as project management. Successful candidates will work in a team environment with opportunities to acquire increasing levels of responsibility. Employee may be required to troubleshoot and evaluate existing electrical components or systems or subsystems.

Employee will be required to meet the requirements for R&D Competent Person Electrical Worker Certification per CNS policy, procedures and training. R&D Competent Person, shall be trained and knowledgeable of the construction and operation of equipment or a specific work method and be trained to identify and avoid the electrical hazards that might be present with respect to that equipment or work method.

Shall also be familiar with the proper use of the special precautionary techniques; applicable electrical policies and procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE) including insulating and shielding materials; and insulated tools and test equipment. A person can be considered qualified with respect to certain equipment and methods but still be unqualified for others. Employee will use sound engineering judgement and safety and will fulfill all training requirements and procedures established by CNS, specifically R&D Competent qualified, prior to troubleshooting any component or systems or subsystems. If the successful candidate is not currently certified as a R&D Competent Electrical Worker, the certification process will be initiated upon assumption of the position.

Designs and develops software applications used to automate complex instrumentation systems, perform calculations on and manipulate very large data sets, interface with databases, create user friendly operator interfaces, and consolidate results into legible reports. Opportunities also available to contribute to design and improvements to the database architecture.

Designs and develops new electronic and electromechanical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Researches and develops the theory and application of electronics, controls, communications, instrumentation, computational intelligence, and other electronic components for use in test and acceptance equipment.

Researches and develops solid-state integrated circuits, including computers, communications, signal processing, or optoelectronics. Assesses capabilities of existing components, equipment, systems, and networks. Utilizes industry standard concepts for electrical grounding/shielding/bonding concepts to all hardware designs.

Specific Job Knowledge & Training Required

Preferred candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer/Software Engineering from an accredited school and/or holds a Texas Professional Engineering License (PE) combined with at least 2 years of related technical experience, or a Master's degree in Electrical or Computer/Software Engineering from an accredited school.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills, including effective leadership, delegation, teamwork, and negotiation.

Independence and strong problem-solving skills. Advanced technical degree or significant equivalent experience. Technical knowledge and competencies appropriate to the position.

Thorough knowledge of and applied experience with scientific and engineering methods and with the discipline's standards for the ethical conduct of research. Thorough knowledge of and experience with designing, planning, and executing research, design, and development projects. Demonstrated ability to work as a team across disciplines. Employee must conduct operations in an ethical manner and keeping with company policies and procedures.

Must possess knowledge of analog and/or digital design, embedded processing, and software development. Varying degrees of competence in any of these categories may be acceptable. Any technical knowledge or experience with electro-optics or fiber optic design, application or research would be a plus.

Technical problems range from problems that are: technically complex that have known solutions which require experience and judgment (Senior Associate); problems that are more complex with a range of solutions requiring professional judgment and knowledge (Specialist); to problems that are highly complex, diverse, and impact the organization (Sr. Specialist).

Education & Relevant Experience

BS in engineering/science discipline: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience OR a Masters of Science or PhD. Typical engineering/science experience ranging from 3 to 7 years.
