Oklahoma Technical College seeking an Electrical Technology Instructor! The Electrical Program prepares students for entry-level employment as technicians in the design, operation, service, repair, and installation of electrical systems and equipment. The Program combines theory with practical hands-on training designed to simulate the actual work environment and skills needed to excel in this field. Must hold a valid Oklahoma Journeyman license or Unlimited Electrical Contractor license with a minimum of three years of recent electrical experience. Prior training or teaching experience is a plus. Instructors are responsible for sound educational practices and the academic development of each student; instructors will manage the classroom and lab environments, and promote a positive and engaging learning experience, provide support, and tutoring as needed. Full-time with benefits. Four 10-hour days - Monday through Thursday, 12:30 pm to 11:00 pm. Licensed by OBPVS.

Responsibilities:

  • Have a thorough understanding of Electrical mechanic as it applies to construction

  • Instruct students in electrical service and repair with a customer service focus

  • Lecture and laboratory instruction focusing on up-to-date Industry Equipment

  • Demonstrate systemic problem-solving strategies in the electrical service setting

  • Prepare students to pursue electrical journeyman's licensure

  • Be familiar with current accrediting bodies and program societies i.e. ABHES, ACCSC, and OSHA

  • Demonstrate accurate use of trade-specific jargon

  • Instruct in process-specific specialized electrical equipment and tools

  • Instruct students in safe service practices

  • Adapt to and cope with the elements of change in the electrical industry

  • Evaluate student mastery of skills and competencies required by course outcomes

  • Provide an excellent experience as well as help with student advisement and recruitment activities

  • Assist with program/curriculum development as needed

  • Develop and create project plans for program as necessary

  • Maintain equipment and other assets pursuant to maintenance, storage, and security procedures

  • Strong desire to see students succeed in the electrical industry

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

  • Maintain professional image, attitude, and appearance

  • Report directly to the Department Head

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must have a working knowledge of instructional theory and terminology with basic education principles, practices, and methodologies

  • Proven coaching and development skills, including demonstrated ability to support and teach

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills

  • Excellent time management skills and organizational skills

  • Proficient in Google Suite, MS Office, and other basic campus management software

  • Excellent presentation, public speaking, written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience in adult education, development and program administration a plus

Education and Experience:

  • A valid Oklahoma Journeyman's License or Unlimited Electrical Contractor License is a compliance requirement

  • A minimum of three years' verifiable electrician field experience with an emphasis on construction electrical is required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

  • Technical college teaching experience preferred

  • Diploma in the Electrical Technology field is a plus

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods either sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing in a classroom or lab environment.

  • Ability to navigate to and walk around all areas of the college campuses, including stairs.

  • Ability to sit, stoop, bend, lie on their back, and work overhead. They will be required to be on their feet for most of the instructional period to best monitor student work and behaviors in open and enclosed work areas. The individual is required to lift 50 pounds from the floor to standard working height and return on a regular basis, and have the ability to move equipment that is several hundred pounds.
