Owned by our parent company, Hartree Partners, NE Renewable Power is made up of 7 Biomass electric generating power stations located in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. These stations play a crucial role in supplying locally sourced renewable energy to the people of New England.

Starting in April, Sprague will be bringing its over 150 years of energy operating experience to the operations of these facilities, and we're hiring an Electrician Technician for the Westminster, MA location.

Job Summary / General Purpose:

The Electrical Technician at our 18 MW wood-fired biomass power plant in Westminster, MA is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all instruments and electrical equipment in the power plant and the associated facilities. The Electrical Technician performs work of high skill in the inspection repair, testing, calibration, installation and removal of all electronic and electrical power plant equipment and systems.

Major Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Monitor facility electrical process, instrumentation and control equipment for proper operation.

  • Troubleshoot problems associated with electrical and instrumentation control systems components.

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on facility electrical equipment to include variable frequency drives, motors, starters, etc.

  • Maintain/troubleshoot/program the GE Series 6 Programmable Logic Control system.

  • Maintain preventative maintenance records for electrical equipment.

  • Maintain inventory control of electrical and instrumentation spare parts.

  • Assist with scheduling and coordinating outside contractor work on instrumentation and electrical equipment.

  • Perform troubleshooting and preventative maintenance on process controls equipment that includes electro pneumatic positioners, control valves and transmitters.

  • Maintain and troubleshoot faults with the Fisher Provox Digital Control System.

  • Maintain/troubleshoot/audit boiler continuous emissions monitoring equipment.

  • Maintain preventative maintenance records for instrumentation and control equipment.

  • Demonstrate proficiency with common test instruments to include the Fluke, Megger, Signal Generator, Amprobe, etc.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in reading electrical schematics and diagrams.

  • Participate in required company safety training.

  • Maintaining and troubleshooting air conditioning equipment.

  • Installing new electrical equipment and systems for plant modifications and improvements.

  • Act as a team member with all employees; comply with all NE Renewable Power policies and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education / Experience / Skill Requirements:

  • High School Graduate

  • Graduation from an accredited Electrical Technician Program or two years of work experience as a technician in a related industry.

  • License to work in Massachusetts required.

  • Experience in working with voltages up to 4160 volts is highly desirable.

  • Proficient with the use of power and precision tools.

  • Must be cooperative with those he/she contacts in this work and can work without direct supervision.

  • Must know the hazards involved and the safety precautions to be practiced in the operation and maintenance of power plant equipment and machinery.

  • Work within and ensure strict adherence to all safety practices and procedures.

  • Must be able to respond to audio alarms and variations of sound.

  • Must possess basic data entry/computer skills

  • Must possess basic math skills

  • Must possess good verbal communications skills

  • Work as a team. Must be able to pool our knowledge and energy to work in tandem to completely understand and productively respond to all the business challenges.

  • Successful completion of applicable Pre-employment drug testing and formal background checks.

Work Environment: Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  • Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, high voltage protective equipment and other equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties.

  • Work with hazardous materials may be required.

  • Requires working extended working hours, varied shifts or 12-hour shifts with weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. On call status (day and night) may be required.

  • Includes working indoors and outdoors.

  • Includes working with high temperature liquid and high voltage equipment.

  • Possibility of working on feet for extensive periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing; and routinely lifting 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to work in elevated areas, confined spaces and in extreme heat and cold conditions.

  • There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

  • Ability to meet the highest attendance requirements.
