This position requires participation in an after hour's on-call rotation.

Under the general supervision of the Electrical Maintenance Supervisor, performs skilled electrical trade, motor control, technical electrical, instrumentation, electromechanical, and maintenance work for the operation of the water reclamation process. This role involves maintaining, repairing, troubleshooting, installing and calibrating various electrical and electromechanical equipment. Assignments are made orally or through written orders and may be accompanied by instructions, schematics, diagrams, or blueprints. This position is required to be available for a rotating emergency call-out duty and is required to be available during natural disasters. In the absence of the Electrical Maintenance Supervisor, this position reports to the Water Reclamation Plant Electrician.

The incumbent is expected to exercise sound judgment and initiative in resolving complex electric, electronic, electro/mechanical, and other maintenance-related problems. Work reviewed through records, conferences, and observation of results obtained. Performs other related work as required.

  • Evaluates, diagnoses, troubleshoots, installs, alters, repairs, and maintains motors, generators, switchgear, motor controllers, transformers, wiring systems, lighting, electronic components, and other equipment.

  • Identifies issues with the treatment process related to the electrical, signal, control, and communication systems.

  • Responsible for maintaining accurate records and logs of the operation, repair, maintenance, and calibration of electric, electronic, mechanical, and other related materials.

  • Develops and maintains schematic wiring diagrams for all electrical and electronic systems.

  • Displays a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments efficiently.

  • Works with minimal supervision. Demonstrates responsible behavior and attention to detail.

  • Responsible for maintaining and following uniform safety practices and procedures regarding the Division's electrical, electronic, mechanical, and other maintenance-related equipment

  • Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.

  • Seven years of experience in commercial/industrial electrical installations or possess a Brevard County Journeyman License and three years of experience in commercial/industrial electrical installations.

  • Must possess a valid State of Florida Driver's license and an acceptable driving record

  • Knowledge, skills, and the ability to repair, service, maintain, and install electrical equipment, generators, transformers, switchgear, automatic transfer switches, motors, motor controllers, and electronics varying voltages of AC and DC from 12 volts to 480 volts nominal for the wastewater industry.

  • Knowledge of automation electrical devices such as PLCs, pressure switches, flow meters, process instruments, motorized valves, level sensors, etc....

  • Knowledge of trade occupational hazards and appropriate preventive safety procedures, particularly concerning electrical systems and equipment work.

  • Knowledge of local and national electrical codes.

  • Knowledge of the use of SCADA systems and interface equipment.

  • Knowledge of Windows-based computer programs, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and Teams.

  • Skilled in troubleshooting complex motor controls and complex process controls.

  • Skilled in the care and usage of standard and specialized electrical tools and testing equipment.

  • Ability to anticipate and plan for expanded electrical needs.

  • Ability to adapt to new technology as it becomes available for our industry.

  • Ability to maintain a preventive maintenance program and maintain accurate required records.

  • Ability to learn and adhere to City purchasing principles and practices.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, the public, technical representatives, vendors, contractors, and representatives of telephone and power companies.

  • Ability to express information effectively to individuals or groups while considering the audience and nature of the information.

  • Ability and willingness to respond to emergencies as identified by City Staff.

  • Ability to evaluate and accomplish tasks consistent with Division goals and objectives.

  • Ability to respond appropriately to all forms of supervision.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to operate a vehicle, i.e., pickup, van, etc., at night and during inclement weather.

  • Ability to speak, hear, and understand conversations in English in a normal tone of voice, both in person and by telephone.

  • Ability to use senses, including sight, smell, hearing, and touch, to evaluate and troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment. Binocular vision is required for depth perception.

  • Ability to see and read blueprints, letters, numbers, words, characters, and symbols, both large and small.

  • Ability to correctly identify colors and hues, tints, and shades of colors by sight.

  • Ability to print and draw letters, numbers, words, characters, diagrams, and symbols in English. It must be legible and understood by others.

  • Ability to use small hand tools, which require using hands, wrists, and fingers. Dexterity, including fine motor skills, is needed.

  • Ability to move from a standing or sitting position to a bending, kneeling, or squatting position periodically.

  • Ability to move back and forth and sideways while bending, kneeling, or squatting.

  • Ability to learn complex tasks and remember to complete tasks without assistance once trained.

  • Ability to perform data entry tasks on a computer.

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items weighing up to 50 pounds over uneven terrain, up and down ladders and stairs.

  • Ability to lift and/or carry which are awkward to grasp or hold on to.

  • Ability to work in undesirable conditions, including dust, dirt, chemicals, welding flash, heat, cold, fumes, odors, noise, wetness, and humidity.

  • Ability to use pneumatic, power, and small hand tools, which require using hands, wrists, and fingers.

  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit for periods longer than 30 minutes but not to exceed 8 hours consecutively.

  • Ability to walk continuously for more than 10 minutes throughout the working day.

  • Ability to stay in a bending, kneeling, or squatting position for periods of no less than 10 minutes.

  • Ability to work in adverse environmental weather conditions (day or night) when electrically safe.

  • Ability to work around chemicals used in maintenance of facilities and water/wastewater treatment processes.

  • Ability to climb stairs four stories high.

  • Able to climb ladders up to 35 feet high.

  • Ability to work at heights of approximately 80 feet from a bucket truck.

  • Ability to operate equipment such as pickup trucks, lifting devices, portable pumps, etc.

  • Ability to respond and be available to emergency calls as needed - day or night, holidays, etc.- in a timely manner.
